is there a way to patch a doggy door?

I bought a house that has a doggy door.

any suggestions to patch it up, or remove the slider and make it more secure?

or just get a new door.

it's a heavy wood door the dog entrance is in the center with a heavy plastic curtain and plastic slider.

Personally I would just get a new door. That spot in the door will always be the weakest and easy to break no matter how its patched up.

I would also get a new door.

How big is the doggy door? Small, med or lg dog size?

18" x 18" is pretty big. I've had full grown Dobermans' charge through an 9 ½” x 13” doggy door at full speed.

I've never seen an 18" x 18" size doggy door and it would def be for a big dog and I would say home made. The biggest I've seen would be around 15” x 24 ¾”. A huge dog can fit through that

If it is for a small dog, say 5½" x 7½", and the door was painted, not stained, I'd say that a decent patch job could be done and be unnoticeable if done right. But, 18" is too big IMHO
