You would have to reinforce the hell out of that car to do that or it will fold in half if you ever got the doors to open.

If you added all the additional structural components found in verts, I'd think a targa would be just fine structurally.
I like the look of it!

I think it looks good. I think someone posted up the other day about doing this to a camaro, and someone else mentioned that there is a kit for mustangs out there..dunno what models though

thanks for the input! is the roof all that structurally significant?? (maybe it is, i just didn't believe it to be). I mean, this idea needs lots of research before saw meets roof, just thought it might be a neat (and profitable) idea. Do the t-top f-bods have reinforcement that allow that to work that the mustang lacks? I just figured the chassis strength did not rely on the roof.

You are correct Dustin--that's what got my gears turnin. There is not a kit for 05+ mustangs; and the kit that was referred to for the previous body style seems to be a sham--lots of guys complaining about him and his work--a group is trying to send him to jail so... I think it would be sweet--if it could be done within reasonable cost (below $2,000) and be OEM quality--reliable, leak free, structurally sound, etc...

I can't see many people doing that to their cars... buying a new car and cut it up.

My dad bought a brand new 09 car off the lot, brought it home, and cut a huge hole in the roof and dropped a moon roof in. He said it was hard to bring himself to do it.

This is why T-Toping a Hardtop car is so easy, they ALL ($th gen) start life as a T-Top. Then the HT cars get extra stuff welded in.Last edited by FORD RECOVERY EXPERT; 05-22-2009 at 10:24 AM.

I used to see a 94-97 GT with a targa roof at a cruise night I went to last year. Had a cage though.

don't like the look of convertibles.. Now that the t/a is gone i realize how much the ttops had to do with my love for that car... I figured this might not be real feasible; just an idea i thought i'd throw out there. And ya--I found pics online of the older body style (04 and older) that had it done--which is what made me believe that perhaps the chassis did not depend on the roof for rigidity (damn laughin guy)
