take me to school on i pod touch
I'm looking into getting an ipod touch, but i need to justify spending nearly $200 on it, and I want to make sure I can get my money's worth out of it. I'm not one to go and spend money on itunes or movies to put on it. Is there another way to put movies on the ipod? Also, what is jailbreaking the ipod? What kind of programs can you get for free on it. Take me to school

erm... can i listen to pandora on it? no? darn.
can i get the many THOUSANDS of apps for it?? no? darn.
i LOVE my itouch, don't like itunes but love my itouch.
the rest of the stuff that the OP asked can be answered by a simple google seach... we can't justify what you spend your money on. i love mine but it makes me wish i had a iphone because i'm not always around wifi(i'm on verizon and don't want to change but i MAY get an incredible when they become available again)

iPod touch will only get pandora in wifi range. Since most people use their MP3 players in the car/bus/plane/train that kinda becomes a useless app.... unless you're home.... then your Laptop/PC/cellphone could probably do Pandora just fine.
I have consistently found that for sound quality ZUNE HD performs better than the iPod line. It's lighter, cheaper, has an AMAZING subscription service that is soon to get a price cut to 10 bucks a month for unlimited downloads. The files from the Zune marketplace don't have DRM and can sometimes be had in bitrates of up to 320kbps. The zune software is LIGHTYEARS ahead of iTunes. The zune is ridiculously easy to browse. I mean... if the goal is music.... can't beat Zune HD.Last edited by LSCyaL8R; 06-15-2010 at 09:28 AM.

This was the reason when I first bought my Zune HD, but sold it... Did not really have a need for it. The screen is very, ... Only downside was mine kept locking up and shit... I been told that's been fixed. But my HTC HD2, is always freezing even with it's fast ass processor. I may go back to my old trusty Blackberries, I have 5 of them in the past and never a propblem besides charge port coming loose...

Its hard to deny that the ipod touch and iphone aren't awesome devices. But I will say this, I use a zune for all my music because of the Zune pass.

the main reason i like the ipod is because of all the apps u can get, and then whatever u can get from jailbreaking.. I was watching topgear last season and jeremy had an app that measures decible levels. Theres also an app for your car that you can use with bluetooth to read codes n stuff. things like that are what i'd be looking into the touch for

You can get a much more feature rich experience from a smartphone than an iPod touch is the bottom line here. stand alone apps on the touch won't be as feature complete as apps that can easily access information from the cloud. things that can interface with your facebook, your address book, your location, additional data from the internet, etc. Unless you have ATT and plan on getting an iPhone then my best suggestion is to keep the media player the media player and save the apps for the best smartphone your carrier provides. either an iPhone, an Android or even a Windows Phone 7 which is nearly the same interface as Zune HD
Contrary to what SHines-IT said, my Zune NEVER freezes, stutters or exhibits ANY kind of foul behavior. It's much more stable than the iPod photo, iPod Video, 80GB iPod and iPod classics I've experienced. I never spent more than a short time with the iPod touch so I can't speak on behalf of it's stability but I wouldn't doubt it's better than the ones I've had.... they were simply atrocious.
