    surviver man fans

    okay...so does anyone remember the episode where he was stuck out in alaska...or maybe it was the pacific northwest. at any rate.

    he used this little device that i think was called an air hammer or air ram...something like that...probably wrong though. it was a handheld size tube with a piston/ram. he put a little piece of dry grass in it and pushed the piston into the tube fast and it made a pop and he got a small piece of cherry red charcoal out of it that he used to start a fire.

    what is this thing actually called...air ram...air hammer...air piston...what? where could i find one and how much are they?

    Lighters don't like wet conditions. But yea a lighter is cheaper.

    lighters are cheaper yes but i am looking at getting one just for the fun of it for one but also as a teaching tool and instructional tool for my cadets for field operations next summer.

    I saw him pick at cotton socks to get enough lint together once to start a fire. They sell all kinds of those survival gadgets. I just carry lighters and a cell phone.
