    This posted as a review of Mobil1 Extended Performance....no you cannot make this shit up.......

Last year I was running "regular" Mobil 1 that I just changed about 500 miles ago and I ran a 10.7 at the track. Then last week under pretty much the same conditions but with Mobil 1 EP that I changed 7000 miles ago I ran a 10.9. So basically performance does not stay consistent after 7000 miles with this oil. There is a definite loss in power.

    Overall I think this is good oil and may last longer than regular Mobil 1, but it does need to be changed more frequently than 7000 miles. I wouldn't dream of running to 15,000 like Mobil says, I would be running 11s if I did. So basically Mobil's marketing department has ruined what otherwise could have been a good product.

    SI-1 is a fuel cleaner for those that do not know. You put it in your gas

    what are the actual differences between the 2? I thought Mobil 1 was a major rip off?

    The max distance(fore & aft)between my roof rack bars is 5'. The length of each bar is 51". There is about an 1-1/2" gap between the rails that run parallel to the cars length and the top of the crossbars.

    Thus, if you cinch it down in the middle from side-to-side, it'll cause the two ends to bend up, which isn't good while driving. Perhaps some spacer here?

    Thanks in advance!

    Mobil1 EP has 50% more friction modifiers and detergents than regular Mobil1. I use to rail on Mobil1 when it was $5 bucks a quart and PP (and other great Synthetics GRPIII) were $3. Now they are all the same cost. So no more bitching from me.

    So because of that i am asking you guys for advice about what engine oil should i put into my Mercedes E55 AMG W211 (with VERY low milage)? Here is the story; Mercedes want from us AMG owners that we strictly put Mobil1 0W-40 into that engine or any other MB 229.50 oil.
    Since i have always used GC (Castrol SLX Longtec Professinal 0W-30) in all of my ex cars with GREAT succes (btw.i am from Europe), i decided to put it also in my new E55 AMG. BUT, since AMG engines are noisy from the start (even brand new ones), i was afraid that with German Castrol my engine will be even more noisy. And that prooves to be true. So for that reason i will take out GC, and put in some thicker oil. And since we all new that viscosity of Mobil1 0W-40 is not much better then GC (so i doubt it will quiet down my engine), i am thinking some other possibilities;

    -Mobil 1 5W-50 Peak life (old name was Mobil1 rally formula 5w-50)But it does not have Mercedes MB 229.5 approval, which AMG need according to Mercedes
    -Castrol TWS 10W-60 (which i also used succesfuly in my previous cars and i discovered that it was not too thick for winter so it could be good choice for AMG 55 also, but also it does not have MB 229.5 aproval (which does not bodore me)
    You betcha....put some 60 weight oil in that new Mercedes. It's OK. You first

    Thicker oil is automatically better.

    It looks to be a pretty straight forward oil change. I have to remove the splash shield. I will have to pick up a 36mm socket for the filter housing. I only have a 32mm for the Ecotec's I worked on in the past. One good thing is. I work near the best Volvo tuning company in the US, IPD. They have great prices on OEM Volvo maintenance parts.

    I have enough quarts of Chevron Supreme 5W-30 in my garage to do the next OC. How are these Volvo 2.4 engines on oil? Do they have any problems going the 7.5K, or should I stick with 5K/6 months OCI's?
    Yup. And while your in your VW peddling to the store for more oil me and the LS1 boys will be in the house banging your GF.
