Check the distributor itself. The dist shaft itself tends to wear out, causing the symptoms you're having. If this is the case replace the distributor as an assembly...pick-up coil, module, whole nine yards.

Distributors aren't that much money, esp remans. Not saying that is even your problem, just something to look at.

They tend to wear out and get loose, which causes the pick-up coil to get thrown off. The way to check is to remove the dist and look for play between the gear drive and the housing itself...if there is,chances are that's your problem.

this would be a good place to start......do you have any codes at all? Usually when that distributor gear wears you'll start throwing some timing related codes.

Code should still be stored. Go to Autozone and they will read it for free.

They will stick in this metal prong type shit and it will flash the engine light a certain amount of times. They then look it up and it should tell you whats going on. Thats how my Corsica works

I just noticed you're obd1.....you can jump that connector with a paperclip and get your codes.

    OBD1 pinout

jump the A-B pin and there will be a series of flashes by the SES light (first number) pause series of flashes(second number).

    Who are you? Fucking MacGyver?

I'll just stick paper clip into slot 1 and 5 and now I'm good to go. Some tape and bubble gum will fix your issue if put here

Along with the distributor it could be your o2 sensor. The o2 is bypassed in open loop so that could explain why it doesn't do it when cold.

yep....or a faulty coolant temps sensor will do this on obd2 cars....not completely sure about obd1 but I would imagine it would. Step 1 should be pulling the codes and see what it says.
