speech topic...need help
so i have to give a speech on tuesday of this week...and i have no idea what to give it on. the one thing that i could have done it on easily is off the list of available topics...smoking bans. also we can't do the drinking age...so both of those are out.
and i'm having trouble coming up with something to do my speech on now.
the speech has to be a policy speech. in other words i have 5-7 minutes to argue my case of policy for somebody, group, or agency to do something because of something...say for instance for a city board to enact a smoking ban because smoking related diseases kill people. something like that.
so far my ideas have been...
immigration reform (secure borders and enforce laws that kind of thing)
hydrogen fuel cell technology (pro)
ummm...and that's about it. so...anyone care to help me out with some brainstorming of ideas for a topic? i'd appreciate it.

Man, I tried to think of something but can't. I honestly like your idea about immagration. I think it's getting ridiculous and I think a good solid idea on that would make a great topic. If I can think of anything though I'll let you know. Sorry I couldn't be of help.

we watched a speech from last semester on gun control and quite honestly while that is a great topic...anyone that would try that topic after that kid is retarded. he seriously did that great of a job in the pro gun rights direction that i was watching liberals lining up at the nra table for their membership cards.
right train of thought though

What about these, water conservation. The reason that came to mind is because of the crazy people in cali that have that plant that turns waste water into drinking water. Kind of gross to think about at first, but definently ground breaking.
You also have the ever popular alternative fuels. Not much more to say on that one.
And then another one that I thought of that can bring up a debate is trash and recycling. Talk about the landfills and the problems they can cause or the off shore dumping. Maybe try to find some numbers about recycling and how good it really is etc.
I don't know if any of these can help or can give you the sort of information and topic you need, but did a quick brainstorm in the shower.

Give the speech on abortion. Argue that the age limit needs to be extended from the start of the third trimester to 80 years old, because some people are fucking stupid and deserve it.

interesting...thanks for the links. i was sitting here looking up recycling facts and i came up with a ton of facts so i'm thinking i might be able to do something with recycling.
consequently i found a website where you can enter your zip code and what you need to dispose of...used engine oil, batteries, etc...and it gives you a list of places in your area that will take them. no doubt i'll be using that.

You could argue that "bans" on any legal substance or legally purchased item, as a matter of policy, limit an individuals right to choose, and therefore threaten the foundation of our country our founding fathers sought to create. Instead of drinking and smoking, you could use a noise ordinance (depending on your state), that prohibits louder than stock exhaust systems on cars when in reality most exhaust systems, properly designed that are louder than stock reduce backpressure and improve fuel econonomy, thereby lowering emissions, depending of cours on how heavy your lead foot may be.

Give a speech on how we have too many policies and that government local/state/federal must come to the realization it cannot regulate ethics/morals nor impose on basic freedoms.

CAFE! I am considering doing one about it (4-5 minute persuasive) in a week or two myself. I just got through doing one over a brief history of General Motors (that rocked!). I got everyone excited about the new ZR1, lots of questions!
