1997 Grand Cherokee- 1999 Firebird.
Sooo....I just got arrested for reckless driving.
True story. I'm home now after spending 3 hours in the holding tank. First time I've EVER been to jail. A Civic was doing 15mph down the main road in my subdivision and I was in a hurry to get home so I passed him. The guy driving the car was an off duty cop He lives 1 street over from me. He said he wrote down my license number when I passed him. He showed up in his police car with 2 other units. He pretty much told me he didn't have to arrest me but he was going to anyway. Thanks pal. I had to pay $100 to get out of jail and I have to go to court at 1pm tomorrow. Anyone know whatkind of fine I'm looking at? This SUUUUCKS! I bet I won't be doing that again.

get a lawyer and he'll have the charges dropped. No way that'll stick. I'm not even sure that's legal for the cop to do that, although I'm no expert on law.....just lawbreaking.

I'm sure you'll be fine. If it doesn't get dismissed it probably will be reduced to improper lane usage or something. In order for this to happen you will need a lawyer. I think the cop just wanted to teach you a lesson it looks like it worked. I wouldn't say that was reckless driving you just pissed off the wrong person.

being processed sucks...
now they have your finger prints and photo...
now if you're going to commit a crime your gonna have to think it out and not leave evidence...

...and make sure you steal the security camera tapes.
On another note, I can see this story from both sides, and it sucks all around. The guy probably has some kids, and what would have happend (yeah, a 30mph pass isn't crazy) but if one of those kids was chasing a ball you didn't see em comin' and wham, there you are. Just one of those What-If situations. On the other hand, I cannot stand a slow-ass in my way, and I too probably would have done the same thing. It sucks all around, but just take it easy, keep your cool, be CIVIL about it, dont go throwin shit and raising your voice and pointing fingers. Be a man, take what you get, and chalk it up as another lesson learned.
I hope for the best for ya though.

You won't even need a lawyer...it'll get thrown out. Just use common sense when talking to the judge.
Also go to his department and file a complaint of harassment or misusing his authority....nothing will probably be done but it'll go in his file.

I pretty much passed him on a double yellow line in a 25mph zone smoking my tires in the process. I was in my Jeep. He said he had his wife and 6 week old daughter in the car but I don't remember seeing a passenger. Who knows. No one even read me my rights.

Arresting was a bit much, but dumb move. My buddy has got 2 wreckless ops, 1 in his z28 passing in a double yellow UNDER the speed limit and he could see far enough ahead. We think the cop wouldn't have noticed except for the straight pipes and flashy car (bright blue w/c5's, tint, very lowered)
the other he was in a work truck pulling a backhoe, dropped his cell on the floor and picked it up and traffic had stopped ahead---and he slid into a car and totoled it

he was off duty, he has no rights to arrest you unless you were commiting a serious crime like robbery or assult.
