Some sad pictures from last year.
It was this day last year that I was run over by a semi in my beloved 2001 Z28.
I bought 'Marilyn' only four months prior. It was my first f-body, I had been searching for a long time and finally found the right one. It was white, in awesome condition, with t-tops, leather, and a 6 speed. I was so excited to finally have a camaro, and soon after I added a magnaflow exhaust, an air lid, and later on some suspension stuff.
I was thinking finally this car is starting to not look stock!
I ordered some brand new black ZR1's with tires a week prior to the accident. I had planned to put them on after work on tuesday, the 25th.
But sadly life had other plans.
On my way to school around 6:30am, I took the three lane highway into the city as I always did. I was in the far right lane doing around 55mph, probably singing along to 311. I saw a semi about to pass me in my rearview but didn't think anything of it.
Before I even knew what was going on, I was slammed violently into the steel guardrail. My windows shattered upon impact, spilling glass everywhere. I was still in full motion, spinning circle after circle, miraculously not hitting anyone else. I finally came to a stop when I smacked into the center median. My car's rear bumper had hopped up the median and slid down the road a good 50 feet before stopping.
I immediately burst into tears, scared shitless. I was facing oncoming traffic which was building up very quickly.
No one stopped to help me.
I searched around in my car for my cell phone which had been flung out of the console into the rear seat and called 911. With the cops on the way I stepped out to survey the damage.
I know it's just a car. I was incredibly lucky to walk away without even a scratch, but I couldn't help just bawling to see my car like that. Partly because I knew that it was done, partly because I felt like I'd just escaped death.
Marilyn was totalled out five days later with an estimated $11,000 in damage, without the adjusters even looking underneath the car.
I drove a rental camry for a month and searched high and low for another car, finally finding one to suit my needs.
Looking at these pictures actually makes me tear up a bit even now. It was quite a battle to get back to the track and start racing again. Even though the accident didn't happen while racing, knowing what it feels like to lose control and crash into a guardrail hinders my confidence even now.
Here's to a better beginning for 2006, RIP Marilyn.

The semi company paid for the damages, they assumed responsibility a week later.
However I had just bought the car, so basically all they did was pay off the loan, I barely had any equity in the car so it was like starting over when I bought the 2000.
I wasn't going to sue...it's people like that who make insurance rates crazy. It was an accident. Now if he was drunk or something that would have been another story. But it was a mistake, my medical bills & car was taken care of, so I let it go.
