Society at its best !!!! (rant)
This really pisses me off, Four U.S. soldiers were killed in combat shortly before the American military completed a withdrawal from Iraq's cities, and the prime minister assured Iraqis that government forces taking control of urban areas on Tuesday were more than capable of protecting the country.
The withdrawal that was completed on Monday was part of a U.S.-Iraqi security pact and marks the first major step toward withdrawing all American forces from the country by Dec. 31, 2011. President Barack Obama has said all combat troops will be gone by the end of August 2010.
In the attack Monday against U.S. forces, the military said the four soldiers who were killed served with the Multi-National Division-Baghdad but did not provide further details pending notification of their families. It said they died as a "result of combat related injuries."
Ok now this storey doesnt make the news like it should but Micheal Jacksons death is plastered all over the news daily and he was a Phedaphile, whats wrong this this country!

^^ It's Pedophile btw.. It was never proven so he is only a suspected pedophile..
And of course he takes precedence..
This country WORSHIPS entertainment over real life and everything else..
This statement is supported by professional athletes and music entertainers with salaries in the Millions while teachers starve and schools are shut down
I agree with ya. It's goddamn sad and a travesty..
But America is more like Rome and the Coliseum than it is anything else. Somedays I wonder if enough people were to gather and bitch loud enough if we could do anything about it. Other days I wait for the whole place to burn..
PS> I ain't saying he was or wasn't.. Just poking at the whole mess with a long stick myself and keeping my distance.

I personally am tired of hearing about MJ. Sure he was a great musician and dancer, but do we really need to revisit every part of his life when he dies?
IMO when someone dies it should be covered like the way ESPN covered the death of the high school football coach from Applington Parkersberg. Have a couple interviews with people that were close to the person, cover the details of the death, and summarize everything that's been covered. Then do a 1 minute coverage of the guy's funeral and leave it at that.
This way we can get on with other news that has more of a worldwide significance, instead of being narrow minded and focusing solely on one thing.

Thats what I meant. It just happens to be that MJ's death is so over broadcasted that it overshadows the real news that there are men and women overseas who are dying for our freedom.
IMO a person that puts their life on the line for something that they are protecting > A crazy Musician

The media thrives on sensationalism, because a great deal of America loves to focus on it. They do it for the ratings and thusly, the money. The death and controversy surrounding Michael Jackson and other celebrities is simply more sensational than the death of America's brave soldiers.

This is pretty typical and has been going on for years. It is BY NO MEANS anything new.
"Good morning, today in Iraq a bus bombing killed 3 U.S. soldiers and wounded 4, and killed 120 iraqi civilians, 32 have died this month. IN OTHER NEWS, gas prices have increased .02 nationally.....and in Iowa today they approved gay marriage...

Me personally, I consider what's going on in the Middle East 100X (min) more important than anything MJ (or any other entertainer) has done.
I was just stating what the MSM (and, it seems, the population in general) considers more important in the grand scheme of things.
IMHO: MJ = 0; Dead soldiers = Hero!

I was at work on Thursday when he died and we had to endure 5 hours of "BREAKING NEWS" till I left at 2300. At one point, I said to a coworker, "You know, North Korea could have nuked the f**k out of Hawaii and we wouldn't even know." And judging by all of the real news that hasn't been covered over the past week, I think I was right.
