Nice choice, but how come another ZR1?

There are several factors that went into my decision. First, I couldn't pass up the deal. I got it for $75.5 at an interest rate of 2.39%. Another factor was the Virginia personal property tax. We are taxed on cars, boats, ATVs, etc. When I spoke with the tax office, I was told that a new $130,000 Viper would cost me $5,000 in taxes per year. That's still a hefty amount even when factoring in depreciation per year. My insurance also doubled. The taxes on the ZR1 are significantly lower, and my insurance only increased $95/month. Last, it comes down to me being cheap I guess. In the end I didn't want to touch any principal and take a hit in the stock market to buy a Viper. I'm young, and there will be many more cars. Right now my focus is to grow grow grow the fund.

I'm going to take a stab at this......I'm guessing since he said he bought north of where his dad lives and those garages are different that the grey one is his dad's. That would be my guess.

Wow, note to self don't move to Virginia. Can't believe they actually get away with taxing all your cars/toys yearly. What a effing scam. I don't even like paying sales tax again when buying stuff. Which is why in WI I prefer to do trades. They charge 0 tax when no money changes hands and the only fee to pay yearly or every other year is registration.

I pay annually $9.50 for my TA, $18.90 for my son's Grand Prix, and for the Durango $29.50. That is for both tags and what they call it some type of value tax.
If I buy new it's like around 3.x% of the sale price, one time.

They do the same in North Carolina. If you don't pay usually they just won't let you renew your tags. About a year ago all of a sudden the state started taking money out of my check. The notice I got said nothing about why. I called in about it and they said I didn't pay taxes on the TA in 2009. I told her I did and you guys have renewed my plates every year since. Asked how can I fight this. The woman all but laughed at me and told me that I couldn't fight it once they start taking the money it's all done. Told her I never received a notice. She said they sent a certified letter to the address I was living at during that time in 2010. Oh but no record of it ever being delivered. Plus I didn't live at that address. Anyways when I looked into it I found out it was cheaper to just pay it then fight the system. There are so many fees involved in fighting the state I would end up paying more. It's a fucking racket and the state has the upper hand and they know it. Even consulted lawyers and they told me this system heavily favored the state and just to pay the 200 plus late fee.

I had a political aid in my neighborhood asking vague questions the other day. One question was "Wisconsin has the 5th highest property tax rate in the country.. do you think this tax rate should be lowered?" (I pay about 3200 a year) I said how can I answer that question without looking at all the other tax rates. I said some states have a much higher sales tax than 5.4%. Some states charge you on fair market value regardless of property condition instead of a rate based off of what you paid etc. He just looked at his papers and said "so is that a yes or no?" I just laughed.
