Unhappy So the beater won't start...

Go out to the car (2002 Sable) this morning & she won't start. She cranks & cranks, but won't turn over. Ran fine the last time I drove her (A little over a week ago)

I tried to jump her hoping that it was just the battery from sitting, but that did nothing.

She's parked on an angle, but plenty of gas & I've parked in this spot before without issue. Maybe not picking up fuel. That would be too easy, though.

Only other idea I have is the fuel pump took a dump.

I took thousands off the value of my Vette today by driving to work in the rain.

The best part is I can't jack it up to drop the tank in that spot unless I want it to fall on me & kill me or roll down the hill into the woods or whatever is down there. Same with pushing it to another spot. It'd undoubtedly roll back over me & down the hill.

Throw a pressure gauge on the rail. Check for any crank or cam sensor codes

What he said. Can you even hear the pump whining? I'd also check under the rear seat or trunk mat for an access panel if you do have to replace it alot of vehicles have them nowadays.

If your pump isn't priming, check the underhood relays. Switch out your fuel pump relay for your horn or headlights.

From what I've read, no panel in these cars. I was too pissed off & already late for work to check it. I'll do it tonight.

These 3 things will allow to check for fuel pump working without even lifting the car

I know. I was late for work this morning & didn't have time to diagnose. Based on what I know, I guessed fuel pump. I hope I'm wrong tonight.

Fuel pumps really aren't that bad.

PITA, but not bad. Had to drop a full tank in 1 of my old Mustangs by myself. What fun. My concern this time is not the work, it's the location of the car. It is not suitable for the work. I'm not going to risk my life to do it lol

I'll get right on that w/the Vette or Fiesta LOL

After I troubleshoot, if it does definitely appear to be the fuel pump, I'll ask my buddy to come help me push it or just call AAA to tow it to a shop & let them do it as I'm fed up. Only way a tow truck gets in there is with the lot almost empty. I don't see it coming out with it full. Stupid overflow lot. Another reason I wish I had a bigger driveway.

I put it on CL instead. I doubt anyone buys. I was offered a trade for a 95 Exploder, though. No thank you.

Check the trunk...my GTP has an access door for the fuel pump. May only be an hour job.

Being a Mercury, it should have a emergency fuel cutoff switch somewhere, probably in the trunk. Doesn't sound like you've done anything to trip it but it's worth checking.

Not trying to be a dick, but he did say it's just a beater.

Prolly did'nt pay all that much for it and likely planned on not keeping it forever anyways.

There's tons of cars out there to choose from for a DD, prolly could even trade it in for another DD and be done with the headache.

Have you looked at the used car market latey? Everything is overpriced. I have been looking for a replacement for months.

Whacked the gas tank with a mallet a few times last night & she started. Dying pump it is!

She started right up this morning without issue. Still changing the pump.
