Simple science project
This is a simple project I just helped my boy with. Object: to make something move 5' using some law of physics, no electricity or chemicals. We came up with this entirely on our own and it works great. The little car scoots across the smooth floor at least 15'. Made from scrap toys, legos, wood and fishing tackle. Feel free to copy this if your kid needs a project.

Right, it works great. We experimented with different weights. The bigger the weight the farther it will coast up to the point when it gets top heavy. Hope he gets an A on this one.

I was always wondering: aren't science project for kids to do? not for the parents? what's the point in making it too hard for a kid and then making parents do it?

HAHAHA Thats Awesome!
When I was younger I made a BOAT.
All I needed was Paper, an Egg, a Needle, a lighter and obviously water.
Here is how it works.
You make a boat out of the paper....not that many people know how to, but its easy.
You take the egg and with a needle you make a small hole on the pointy side of the egg. Then carefully shake the egg and get everything out of it through the hole you made with the needle. ( if not careful, you will break the egg)
after the egg is empty fill it with water about 1/4 or 1/3 of the way (depends on the eggs size)
Then boil the egg with a lighter until you see steam coming out of the hole.
Place the egg (right after you see the steam) into the paper boat toward the end of the boat with the hole facing back of the boat.
Then the steam will push a boat (obviously the boat is now in the water) just like an actual steam boat.

Anyone ever do the egg drop thing? Where you had to make a container for an egg and then throw it off the roof, with the container keeping the egg from breaking?
We did that. In 6th grade or so. Mine was the only one that didn't break. Most people just got soda bottles and put a bunch of stuff to pad it with, and the egg in the middle.
I made mine by making a foam cradle for the egg, and suspending that inside a cardboard box with elastic strips

I agree, I think its stupid. However, thats how it works and if you want the grades you do what is called for. On this project I basically made it as a kit then disassembled it and then had the boy reassemble it. He mixxed epoxy, drilled a few holes, used the screwdriver and then did a lot of the shakedown trying different weight, string length etc. He couldnt have done it all alone but at least he did as much as he could. I just wouldnt feel good about saying" Boy, go set up the table saw and rip us a couple strips of plywood". Hes 12.

We did that with 2 litre pop bottles filled 1/3 full of water, they had a air powered launcher for them, 5 or so went about 200 feet in the air and about 300 yards out.....mine only went like 50 feet up and 30 feet out, but it was the furthest for one to go without breaking the egg. I cut a 4" foam ball in half, and hollowed out a cavity for the egg. only 2 out of 20 eggs survived.

We did something similar, we had to make a bridge out of toothpicks... then put each end on a desk and hang a 5 gallon bucket from it... and added sand to the bucket until it broke, and then weighed the bucket... mine did pretty well, got to 3/4 full of sand before it broke iirc.
