Significant NFL rule changes
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/n...2411?GT1=39002
The eight major changes: (I'll call it the "no lunging" rule)
* A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass.
* A receiver attempting to catch a pass or one who has not completed a catch and hasn’t had time to protect himself or hasn’t clearly become a runner. If the receiver/runner is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player.
* A runner whose forward progress has been stopped and is already in the grasp of a tackler.
* A kickoff or punt returner attempting to field a kick in the air.
* A player on the ground at the end of a play.
* A kicker/punter during the kick or return.
* A quarterback any time after a change of possession (i.e. turnover).
* A player who receives a “blindside” block when the blocker is moving toward his own end-line and approaches the opponent from behind or the side.

gay... it will soon be like this...
team 1: "may we please have the ball and make a touch down???"
team 2: "i don't know... we just let you have the ball..."
ref: *throws yellow flag* "uncertainty occured during the exchange of verbal agreement for the game that they are no longer allowed to play due to it's aggressive nature... team 2 is kindly asked to agree to a 5 year penalty... thank you..."

Soon they will wear flags around their waste, and tackling won't be allowed. The QBs will stand behind a fence that protects them too.

James Harrison said it best:
"I'm absolutely sure now after this last rule change that the people making the rules at the NFL are idiots."

One problem is that a majority of NFL quarterbacks just suck and leave their receiver's out to dry where a head to head collision simply is unavoidable.
As a lifelong Bear and Notre Dame fan, it was really sad to hear about Dave Duerson though. From what I understand about repetitive traumatic brain injury syndrome or whatever they call it, his post-football life was not a walk I the park due to memory loss, depression, debilitating headaches, extreme light sensitivity. Merrill Hoge, a NFL commentator for ESPN and former fullback for the Steelers and Bears has spoken publicly about some of the symptoms he suffers from. I played 20 years ago in HS and suffered 3 concussions in consecutive weeks when I was a senior and didn't say anything because I thought I was tough. I'm lucky that I don't suffer any of those symptoms. So far.
