What is a good brand? Hard or Soft case?
I am looking for one to carry to the range.

i've never use a hard case... i've always used a soft case... i've never seena reason why i'd need a hard case other than running out of room in the gun cabinet...

Roll it up in the rug on your floor, and tie a single peice of rope at each and to secure and use as a sling.

it's cheap... i wouldn't worry about ammo slots (unless you are going hunting)... most people bring a smaller duffle bag with ammo and cleaning shit to the range...

I have both hard and soft cases... I like the hard cases for when i travel with them.

Why not just use a gun sock? Unless you are worried about major bumps, they work great, take up next to no space when not in use, are affordable (most are less than $10), and many are impregnated with lubricant/rust inhibitor.
But for travel, I use hard cases, most of which came with the specific firearm. Lots are available for under $60.

I have Pelican cases for my rifles and handguns, I have factory breakdown hardcases for my shotguns.
