Thumbs up Seriously considering going to school!

So being in a dead end job (better then being unemployed) and such and wanting more from life then I am currently getting (Yup, I am greedy ) I am thinking of going to college. I have pretty much decided if I do, then I will go into Mechanical Design Technician which seems to be promising in multiple areas. It sounds like something I would enjoy and has a excellent employment rate around my area. 9 out of 9 graduates last year got employed in their field. Starting pay ranges from $18 to $35 an hour starting I am going to figure out my eyes first and hopefully can see about getting into this years class which starts late August. Anyone else on LS1.com in this field or going to school currently in this field??

Do it while you're still young. I'm considering it too but it's much harder at my age to start a new career path. I wish I had been smart/motivated enough 10 years ago to do it...

Thats about how I feel. Still young enough to do it and feeling its my only option to make a life that I want (IE Maro, KB Cobra, C6 Z06, House, etc...) Its a 2 year degree and the schedule isn't bad at all.

Eyes first Then I'm about 95% sure I will. I have already taken the time to scope it out a good deal. Would have to take a appitude test but know who all my professors would be and class rooms and so forth. Its a Tech school so I wouldn't feel like a old man. Pretty much 7/6/10 is my eye appointment and if it doesn't break my bank, I will walk into the reception area and start seeing about financing school. I would be able to continue working on the weekends part time but would lose my insurance which scares me a bit.

Granted it is on loans...but I pay nothing out of pocket for school right now.

But I get the thing with the eyes. Heath is more important than damn near anything.

Depends on the loan. But the ones offered by the Feds aren't required to be paid on until 6 months after you graduation/quit/etc.

Never heard of that, but never went to school outside of HS That would be FUCKING AWESOME! Then I could not have to work or just work for spending money and such or save to pay back loan. Can't wait to check this out

The FAFSA is something you do yearly. For possible grants and to keep up-to-date info on the loans.
Don't make much?? Grants (do not need repaid) may be given.

Just be sure to get federal loans and not the commercial loans.

    Federal loan = ~4-6% interest

    Commercial loan = ~20%+ interest

Federal loans are applied for through FAFSA (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/)
Commercial loans are for profit companies that sent you mail with a whole bunch of happy student-looking people all over them. You won't be happy if you go that route.

Going back to school in August, Just for a certificate program right now. Probably end up going for the two year degree afterwards. I have 81.5 credits from another school, hoping some of them roll over into something else beneficial.

FAFSA is the first thing you need to get going, and get it over to the school of your choice.

Stop thinking about it and make the first steps. Start calling the school, get enrolled, get the FAFSA over with, and start going. Good luck

I've decided to do it. Pretty much no matter what!! (Unless I go blind) Parents said they would help me the best they can since I would be the only child to go to college (I'm the youngest also) and they really wanted one of us to go to college. After my eye appointment and such, I'm going down to the college to talk with finance and all that good shit. I'm excited to get this going. I'll be joining "Slowass" in the college life

I can never understand why people don't go to school to get into the medical field. Is every one a pussy when they see blood?

Its one of the most secured careers you can have right now. In just 2 years you can make $60K plus right out of school.
