    School me on TV's

So my wife and I are going to purchase a new TV tomorrow and I'm not real sure what i'm looking for as far as picture quality and brand quality. I at least want a 50". We looked at them this evening and the samsung's and the sony's caught my eye as far a picture quality goes. So can anyone tell me what what to look for?

first off the worst thing you can do is get a TV that is to large for the room it is in... you're going to want to sit away from the TV at about 1.5 to 3 times the screen size...

I just got a 52" Samsung LCD and love it. I compared it with the Sony and Sharp and it blew them both away in specs and picture quality. It was cheaper than the Sony and a little more than the Sharp. Samsung all the way.

I guess a lot of factors come in to play when deciding on a new tv. How long are planning on keeping it? Personally, i went with a 720p mitsu projector. Cable tv and satellite do not have the capability to offer 1080p programming, so having a 1080p tv is not going to get used to its fullest. In the future, 3-5 years??? cable might offer better resolution.

Do not get 1080i. Yes, there are more pixels than 720, but it is interlaced. Watching sports will look much better on a progressive screen.

What is DLP? It is kind of a tie between TV/DVD's/ps3. Samsung is what we liked so we will probably end up getting one of those.
