    Sadly now demodded :(

I was called Project Man High. I was originally designed to test what a pilot would experience if he bailed out at extremely high altitude. Some of the info gained was later used in the Space program.

I wonder how far off he landed from where he took off in that ballon!! And he reached the speed of sound without a aircraft to. Jesus he is freaking nuts, I for one would never bet that guy that he wouldn't do anything lol.

He wouldn't have because he gradually hit the ozone which helped slow him down. And where he was actually doing that speed there was nothing to slow him down nor was there any friction to cause heat.

That would be awsome to experience the first part of the fall but the rest would suck.

Actually, when you see things burn up as they enter the atmosphere, it isn't the actual "thing" burning up, it's the air around it being super-heated by friction.

If you were to touch a meteor right after it hit the earth, it'd actually be freezing cold.

That's what I was trying to figure out, and wasn't that the reason why that one space shuttle blew up was because one of the tiles broke off during flight.

yea it blew up cuz thefoam insulation fell off the big external fuel tank. but the tiles were always throughly inspected and replaced....as when it started to come back into earths atmospheres, those tiles which were part carbon and ceramic would be glowing red on re-entry...so i dont believe the air pocket is being heated and burned around it

Even if the air pocket around was heated up it would conduct to whatever is causing it. Kinda like putting a pot/pan on a stove eye, that is pretty logical and common sense I would think.
