Scanning/uploading pictures & videos to digial

So what kinda options do I have for taking hard copy (various sizes mainly 3x5) pictures to the computer?? I know my mom will be thrilled if I could take all her pictures and somehow transfer them to the computer to be safe. The same with the VHS tapes of family videos and so on. Short of scanning hundreds.....and hundreds of pictures is there a company or somewhere I could take the pictures to be uploaded??? What kinda methods for VHS tapes? Thanks

    My life is a
    Ben Stiller movie.

if you have a lot...take them to a professional printing/digital company and have them all batch scanned on a huge scanner. It's like $30/scan or they might up charge you to layout the 100's of photos at a time. But a large scale scanner can do a 20x40" scan at super high DPI...then you can just take those huge files and crop them as you'd like for your own archive.

do not use kinkos/staples...they are not high end enough. You want to serch for actual Photo Reproduction services in your area.

I myself would still have to crop them? The fact that there are HUNDREDS of pictures is annoying....

Are there any big companies like are reputable or are you just talking about some kinda high end local photo company?

    So what about the videos??

You'll want a local high-end photo reproduction company.

A lot of small video production suites will go analog to digital for you. Dunno the price though.
