    Salvage cars... thoughts?

So i sold the WS6 two months ago and now im in the market for another car... I came across a salvage title 2004 STi thats been repaired and back to normal... would you guys buy a salvage title car if it was ridiculously cheap compared to normal? and does anyone know if there would be any problems insuring them in NY?

I would shy away unless A. it was one heck of a car I really really wanted and couldnt afford normally. And then I would still have it checked out for all the3 major stuff.

I'd find out exactly what damage was done to the car first...a car could have been salvaged because of cosmetic damage that would've cost more than the insurance company was willing to pay. That would play a big factor in whether I would buy a salvaged vehicle or not: whether the damage was primarily on the body panels/paint/etc. or if it had significant damage to the internal parts. Also, the asking price would still have to be a very, very good deal for me to consider buying a salvaged car. Just my opinion, though!

You might want to check with your insurance company to see you will be covered. Some will not cover salvage titled cars.

I wouldn't touch it...in a major wreck like that it'll never be the same. See if he'll show you the post wreck pictures...I bet you won't buy it once you see them.

Some salvage titles are ok but they're usually older vehicles that aren't worth much...they're totaled due to the fact that the damage is over 80% of the vehicles value which might only be a few thousand. I had a truck totaled that only had minor cosmetic damage...it was in great shape but wasn't worth much because it was a 92 silverado. I bought it back but the title is jacked so it pissed me off..

hmm interesting point... for the damage to be more than the book value of 22k it must have been a real wreck

That could be true , but then again a lot of stuff can look real bad but the actual damage may not be that bad .... just remember if you buy a salvage title car ... drive it till it dies .. There will be no trade in value ., might make a good parts car when your done with it ...

I'd have to see what kind of condition the car was in, and how much they wanted for it. Hell, if it drives right, and they want under 10k for it, I'd go for it.
