The Rumor~!
ok so i've read online and have yet to find any solid evidence and no doubt many of you have heard or read this rumor.
i hear that if you save an entire gallon of pull tabs and bring them to a liquor store of some kind, they'll possibly give you an entire keg for the gallon of tabs.
can anyone confirm or deny this "rumor"?

Our local recycle center used to give like $75 for a gallon milk jug full of 'em, back in the day. They will more than likely give you a WTF look...

where i went to school sorority girls used to collect them, and trade them in to raise money. the tabs from the tops of the cans are actually worth more than the entire can (from what i understand). the metal in the tab is a different alloy that makes it strong so it can pop the top, and its worth more.

No, because when they recycle cans (re: MELT) them guess what comes off first? The paint!
The real reason is there is more metal in the tab, per weight, than in the can itself. It's easier to collect tabs than barrels of crushed cans, which is why fundraisers/etc. go for the tabs.
Cans are also worth recycling, just not as much.

As for the rumor, I guess it depends on how savvy the liquor store owner is. If they know the price of aluminum and you're trading them $200 worth of Al. for a keg, it's worthwhile for them, no?
Okay, I looked on Snopes.com.
100 tabs is worth about $0.035....hardly worthwhile to collect them.
Neat story though...it was an urban legend that actually came to reality. Read up on Snopes.Last edited by Detroit Power; 07-20-2009 at 01:04 PM. Reason: Found information on Snopes
