Royal Purple Bullshit
Will they ever learn?
For a few years now the Royal Purple nut sack huggers have been throwing this stupid "test" in my face. For years I have been telling them it is not worth the paper it is written on as that test is for gear oils. Gear oils contain extreme pressure additives. Kids....you do not want EP Additives in your motor oil as it causes corrosion.......painful.....
So finally Mobil1 addresses it officially!
http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/..._Strength.aspx
Royal Purple is running out of bullshit.

No.....I was not happy Exxon/Mobil was utilizing GRPIII base stocks and still refusing to say so when they switched. Then they started this shit about Katrina and availability blah blah.....but never addressed the marketing issue. Then I got my BVD's in a wad over the high lead coming back from UOA's using Mobil1.
Like I have said. What sucks one day may/will change. So I try and stay on top of this crap I have Mobil1EP 5-30 in the Silverado right now. Shaeffers 10-30 in the GTO and Amsoil 5-40 European in the Mercedes. Daughters Pontiac G6 has Pennzoil Platinum 5-30. Silverado/GTO and G6 all have Fram XG filters on

Yeah I been there myself. I also have been to Amsoil up in Wisconsin.
No contest. Amsoil is a much much more impressive high tech facility than Royal Purple.
Mobil told me to GTFO.

I didn't realize Amsoil is in Wisconsin. I go up there from time to time for work. I might look into seeing the place if it's anywhere close on one of my next trips!

i can't bring myself to use a fram filter. bosch...way better construction for only about $2.50 more. and valvoline full synthetic on the g6 and full sythetic max life on the camaro...that's getting card to find now.
i did run royal purple one time in my motorcycle. all the claims of lower operating temps and whatnot. the bike actually ran hotter that summer than the previous two summers. i switched back and the engine temps decreased again. i'd never waste my money on royal purple again.
and living in wisconsin i also had no idea that amsoil was located here. a lot of independent dealers yeah...but not the processing facility.

Sarge - what oil do you recommend for a BBC?
Do you ever consider compression ratio for choosing what type of oil to use? (11:1)
Do you ever use a different oil for the break-in period?
