    rassafrackin furnace.....

the genius who did all the work to our house before we bought it thought it would be a good idea to put the furnace under the house in the crawl space. What a douche bag. Now every damn year I have to climb under there and work on it due to moisture getting to it. Couple years ago I had to replace the burners because there was rust on 'em, a year after that I had to work on a vent fan, and now another vent fan took a shit. The motor is fine but the cage separated from the motor shaft and the damn shaft is so rusted up there's no way in hell I'm getting the set screw out of it to get the center piece of the cage off the shaft. Any ideas on how to get it off there so I don't have to replace the entire motor and cage? It has a plastic shroud around it and it makes it tough to get much in there for that set screw.

It is central air. It's just under the damn house instead of tucked away in a closet somewhere. It's a horizontal furnace.

    Just now needing the furnace??

Replaced the filter in mine about a month ago and turned it on. Hasn't ran much, but it has been on a time or two.
Supposed to snow tonight. Not much though.

na, we've ran it a little the last couple of weeks at night. I noticed tonight it was noisy as hell under there so I crawled under there and pulled the #1 induction fan off and sure as shit, it was separated from the shaft and just flopping around.

it's a dirt floor crawl space.....there's just going to be moisture there. I have gravel poured over a big portion of it but I bet they didn't put a barrier down.... I know they didn't. We looked last year into getting a "crawlspace system" that's basically a heavy duty plastic they put on the ground, walls, and sub floor to seal everything off. Probably end up doing that but it's some expensive shit.

I'm going to go look at a cage for this POS tomorrow and I'll probably end up trying to cut that center section off with a dremel. I'll cut it right through that set screw down to the shaft.

P.B. Blast the shit out of the set screw. Give it a day and try to loosen it. If that doesn't work, then ask the magic 8 ball.

I couldn't find my pb blaster......have no idea what happened to it. You'd have to see this set screw to understand the situation....it's so far gone that you can't even tell it's a set screw anymore. It's going to have to be cut off there. I'll tackle it tomorrow. It's not really cold enough to worry about it tonight anyhow. If it got that cold I also have a pellet stove that I can run. I'll figure it out in the morning though. Probably require some sort of cutting tool and the proper order of cuss words.
