Radar Detector Questions!
Hey guys I know this isnt a radar detector forum or anything but i was just wondering if any of you guys new a little something about radars. Me and my buddies like to drive around... quickly. I purchased a new passport escort for my car and have been loving it. My question is does anyone know how long it will take for a cop to get your speed using a K band or a KA band, based on the time when i receive notice that i am being gunned? I know laser is almost instantly but i am not sure about the others. If anyone knows anything i would love the advice. Thanks

just depends on when he was shooting how far away and if he was even shooting you

sometimes they just "instant on" their radar gun and you have 0 time to slow down. just watch traffic, never speed at night and use your rd to pick up cops shooting cars in front/rear of you

never speed at night =[. so pretty much by the time i see them it is almost too late? My radar is pretty good it detects them before the bend or turn in the road which is nice, but i've always been worried as hell about getting another bad ticket. Me and my buddy (he has a mustang =[ ) were racing down a street tonight and i saw a cop slammed on my brakes but he kept going me and my friend split up and 5 more squad cars came flying by me heading towards were i was at. scared the crap outta me

You have a very good rd. I used to run one in my car and it did save me a few tickets. Most of them alerting me of cops in an area so I kept it slow. But if its at night and its easy for them to hide they just turn it on when you are right up on them. I usually just speed/race on interstates and keep it slow where they have places to hid

All RADARS Ive used have a "hold" feature on them... This allows us to turn it on just before you pass us (in the oppo direction) I would say there is a 1 to 2 second delay before someone with a RADAR detector will go off. Usually I can 'Lock" someones speed before they have time to slow down...
That being said, I would definately buy one....

well, it usally depends on the strength of the hit your radar is picking up... I'm pretty sure that they dont have a lock on YOU(as opposed to other cars around you) unless you hit 4 or 5... anything less then that is the bleed off from the radar being aimed at someone else.

the skin on your middle fingers has a special natural oil that causes radar signals fluctuate and give inacurate readings... but only your middle fingers though... the other fingers will attreact the radar so you must keep them holstered using your thumb to keep them down... the higher you put your middle finger in to the view of the radar the better it will block the signal... you middle finger also has a money back gaurantee... it will help to sign for any monitary or legal problems brought up by ineefectivness...

I have it on good advice that wrapping your wheels in Tin Foil will disperse incoming doppler energy and make it impossible to get a *lock* on your vehicle. Also am told that resetting your VSS (vehicle speed sensor) to read 20 + MPH lower than your actually travelling will confuse the radar gun patrol car
Or you can simply camoflage your car to look like a KIA, because what self respecting LEO would DARE call in that he is involved in a high pursuit chase of a KIA going 130 plus down the highway

something halirious happend to me tonight. My buddy asked to drive my car and i let him take it for a little spin. we go 125 down a road thats 40. my radar never goes off. cop pulls us over saying we were going 79 and refused to show the stub. Does anyone know that if it is brought to court and the cop cant prove you were going a speed that you get get out of it? Because i KNOW he didnt gun me

Yea I'd fight that one, if he doesnt have proof of the speed you were going it wont hold up in court.

Uh, he is considered an 'expert witness' and usually the courts are pretty friendly with their testimony- You would have to work pretty hard to discredit his testimony-
Usually radar testimony goes like this: "I saw a speeding vehicle, and I ESTIMATED HIS SPEED AT XX MPH, which I confirmed on my radar" Just his witnessing you is enough to prosecute a ticket-
Your best bet is to try and make a deal-
To the OP- usually radar and laser takes a fraction of a second to compute your speed- it has to receive consecutive similar readings to lock in- if the readings are changing rapidly, like, say, you are hard on the brakes the unit MAY not lock on- but when a cop sees you spike the brakes, he is going to make some assumptions- like, you are speeding, and know it- Best if you can detect a car in front of you being shot, and slow down earlier-
