About a month ago i sold my WS6 to some kid in PA. He asked me to leave the plates on because he couldn't get temp plates to drive it home. He said he would mail them back ASAP and he still hasnt, he even showed me a fed ex envelope that he said he would put them in. This is fucking ridiculous and i havent been able to follow up because i was busy with finals and everything. Should i call the cops or something? like i dont know what to do if this kid is still driving around with my plates... i called him about 15 times over the past month and not once did he pick up

If the car is no longer titled to you, then you have nothing to worry about. If he's driving around and he gets stopped, the car will come up unregistered and with bogus plates. He gets in trouble, not you.

Around here the plates only get stripped if you sell to a dealer or the car gets totaled. If you sell through private party the DMV just changes the registration info and uses the same plate number.

did you sign the title over? if you did then it doesnt matter.

really? yes the title was signed over...
so i have nothing to worry about? it jsut fucking pisses me off that he still ahsnt registered the car and hes driving it around with my plates

now i want to buy a car within the next two months? will i have to register again or would i just be able to transfer the registration over?

Here in Az the plate is yours. You sell the car you keep the plate and put it on the next car.

if you are worried about it contact the cops or the dmv and tell them you sold the vehicle and that the kid still has the plates because he holds the reg for the vehicle but you hold the reg for the plates. If you want call up the cops and report the plates stolen if this kid is being a prick because they will still trace the plates back to you and cause you alot of headaches.

such as if you have a toll system or the kid commits a hit @ run or he commits some kind of crime the plates are going to come at you if he is still running your tags you said he is from pa and your from nyc well those plates are still reg to you even if you sold him the car unless he plans on transferring the plates to his name which I don't see how he can do since he is an out of state resident.. So an shit that goes down it comes back at you until you prove you sold the car to the kid. You won't so much get in trouble just got the headache of proving the plates are yours but you sold the kid the car if he does any fucked up shit with them still on there.
