I have almost the same tv...the plastic around the screen is darker though. I actually had to trade in the 30" one after 15 months last week because it kept timing out when I turned it on...red light kept flashing and then black screen But now I have the 34" for the same price but it says XBR on it...plus the warranty rolled over which I had to fight for.

I was surprised it went out because I heard crt's are more reliable...

    EDIT: here's a pic

I wouldn't keep those speakers to close to that t.v. if it's not magnetically protected or you'll be spending $100-$150 to get it de-gauzed.

Loudspeakers incorporate powerful magnets - the larger the speaker, the
larger the magnet. However, anyone who goes ballistic when the mention
is made of a loudspeaker near a TV or monitor, should take their Vallium.

The fringe fields outside the speaker box will not be that great. They
may affect the picture perhaps to the point of requiring degauss. The
normal degauss activated at power-on will usually clear up any color purity
problems (assuming the loudspeakers have been moved away). At worst, manual
degauss will be needed. The CRT will not be damaged. The maximum
field - inaccessible at the voice coil - is quite strong. However, even
for non-shielded loudspeakers, the magnetic field decays rapidly with
distance especially since the core structure is designed to concentrate
as much of the field as possible in the gap where the voice coil travels.

However, keeping speakers away from CRTs is a good idea.

Now, you really should keep your superconducting magnetic resonance imager
magnet at least in the next room.....
........No charge for my technical advice!!Damn..I'm starting to sound like Billy T.

The speakers are shielded... Sony have an auto de-gaucer (sp?) built in. It's that loud noise you hear when you turn em on.

XBR are Sony's best TVs, they also come with 2 year manufacturers warranty instead of just one.

Sounds like you had a power supply go bad. I've seen that happen to alot of newer TV's, not just Sony, I think it's caused by these TV's needing so much power nowdays. Not sure about that though.

Now you just need to upgrade the Surround Sound System to match the quality of the TV.

This is just sitting on a table right now while my house is being built. But the system is a 7.1 Harmon Kardon reciever and I also have a 10" Velodyne Sub. It works well.

They look like HK speakers....which could be a good or a bad thing. Depends on where they bought them.
