Is the Porsche GT3 the best sports car of all time?
Mike Prichinello is a big porsche fan and he happens to back up his love for the brand with good quality facts about the cars, and i for one respect his opinion.
What is your thoughts? Any Porsche fans?Last edited by Murder after Midnight; 10-09-2015 at 01:52 PM.

This x1000.
A German car can be a great car if you lease it and dump it after the lease is up.
They are not necessarily bad cars, it's just that when parts wear out they are $$$$ to replace.
This is why you will see the Auto Trader and such littered with German cars with around 80-90k miles for sale.
The owners are abandoning ship just before the leaks start.
If you purchase one and plan on keeping it, get ready for a financial proctology exam when something wears out.
Parts are very expensive, and the special widget needed to replace that part is also very expensive and can only be purchased from the manufacturer, which means the labor will be expensive in order to cover the cost of the expensive widget needed to replace the expensive part.
Most of my coworkers drive Panzerwagens (BMW, Audis, and Mercedes) and most lease them.
After one of my friends actually bought his BMW X5, he learned the hard way that upkeep can be a bitch.
A $1400 water cooled alternator replacement followed within a few months by a $2000 suspension part replacement and he'd had enough.
So he traded it for a Jaguar (out of the frying pan and into the fire)
Me and one other coworker drive older Subarus and just bank the car allowance.
If something breaks (it rarely does) the money is there.
Edit: No discussion of German Engineering is complete without the Audi S4 pics...
And this is why the engine needed to come out. The timing setup is on the back of the engine, right against the firewall.
Looks like fun to replace the chains and problematic guides, no?
If I were a mechanic and took one look at this, I'd be seriously reconsidering that Wendy's placemat with Manager opportunities.

The first time I did an X5 alternator my exact words were
It's a bit of a shock when you don't know the coolant dump is coming.
The PTsd Cruiser has been surprisingly light on the repair budget

Was the $1400 repair bill about right for the alternator?
Or did my friend's wife get taken for a ride because she was desperate (it failed on her way home from visiting her out of state relatives)?Demanding something free on top of a discount is just being a Democrat

Never worked on one. Also got out of the Chrysler dealer before the Multi Air family came out. The 2.4s have always been reliable through the generations. So imo if Fiat isn't in it too much should be ok. Though I'm hopeful Fiat has stepped on reliability

I recently had a brand new Cherokee with the Multi-Air 4cyl for a rental.
Should have been named the Multi-Scare as the accelerator was basically a volume control.
It got louder but didn't get any faster.
It was a challenge merging into traffic.
More recently I got a new Chrysler 200 for a rental.
I was impressed at how much better the Multi-Air worked in it than in the Cherokee.
Then I opened the hood and saw the 3.6 Pentastar.
That explained the better performance.

Mine was a 4x4 Cherokee Latitude.
Why Jeep would even offer the engine in something like that is baffling to me.
It has been a loooooong time since I had a rental that was that gutless.
I can see rental agencies buying it, but any consumer who actually drove it would cancel any purchase plans immediately.

If I had to throw a non-Corvette as a candidate, I would say the Miata. While the Miata has never been a powerhouse, it provides an excellent driving experience, with its light weight and great handling. It almost single handedly saved the "sports car". The Miatas sucess made it possible for cars like the S2000, Boxster/Cayman, anything with a Lotus marque on it, and the sort to show up an up the ante, and the Miatas beat goes on. Its the "little British sports car that could".
I will say that Porsche has been pushing the 911 series into super car status, and that the real holder of the Porsche sports car mantle is the Boxster/Cayman. My uncle just bought a base Boxster with the sport package and cant get enough of it, and thats saying a lot since he owns or has owned a Sunbeam Alpine and Tiger, Miata, and S2000. The guy could have easily put a high performance 911 model in his garage, but was more impressed with the mid-engined Boxsters handling.
