Lawsuit big time. Driver had to know height of his load, it's the law, and they height of overpasses/bridges is always posted. His negligence cost two people their lives. Hope his liscense gets pulled and he never drives a semi again.

I can't read the news link for some reason. What happened? The semi hit the bridge which jerked it to a halt, and the Toyota was behind it and ran into it?

theres a warning indicator about a mile ahead of this tressel, which flashes if your load is too high, and instructs you to take fm3460 as the alternate route. this guy, although he drives this route frequently, disregarded the warning and kept goin. the passenger in the white car died, as well as the driver of the 18 wheeler.

AN JACINTO COUNTY, Texas—Two people are dead after a major collision Saturday that blocked all lanes of Highway 59 south of Shepherd.
The accident happened around 12 p.m. on Highway 59 near Route 424.
Police said a truck carrying heavy equipment was attempting to clear a bridge when a piece of the equipment struck an overpass, was knocked off, and landed on a car.
A tanker truck carrying oil then hit the first two vehicles, spilling an estimated 50 barrels of oil.
Two people died in the accident, while one was sent to the hospital and another managed to walk away.
Police had to shut down north and southbound lanes in order to clean up the mess.

In my town there is a bridge refered to as, "The Truck Eating Bridge". It has the same system. Scratch that, better system. There are FIVE signs displaying the height three blocks before the bridge. There is a hanging sign on chains if you hit you will not clear. There is a light that flashes if your load is too high. And right at the bridge there are like 20 flashing orange lights. Yet, at least 5 semi's hit it a year. It's like they say, make something idiot proof and I'll find you a better idiot.

Thanks for posting the article for me.
Yikes. And it's even worse if there's an automated height detector/indicator and it was functional at that time. Yeah this guy and whoever was employing him are gonna get their asses sued for sure. And perhaps for once rightfully so.

We've got allot of 18 wheelers going up north on the I-5 out this way. I always try to steer clear of them. I like to be in front of them. Not behind or along side if at all possible.
I hate when they drift into your lane.
IMO, they are meant to be passed, not driven next to for any length of time.

I like driving under them fast and furious style.
Don't do it more than a couple times to the same rig though cuz they'll catch on, and slam on their brakes while ur underneath for the lulz. Fucked up my front clip man.

Yeah whenever possible I leave a buffer lane between me and a semi while passing it. Even with a good driver, they tend to sway in their lane and over the line, especially on a windy day. Let alone when they do not have a good driver.

Damn that is some carnage. Most I see around me is the trailer peeled apart or wedged under the bridge.
