I understand that the guy walked out in front of him and the family dropped the charges and he did his part to help the family out. But a life was taken in one instance and in the other 2 it wasn't as serious as that in my opinion. I have had freinds who were taken to the yard on dui charges when someone was killed. Which I can say they should have been. I just feel like the sentences are a little reversed.

I think there's some confusion here. Both instances, they both had charges pressed on them by the DA.
Any litigation brought on by the family would have occurred in civil court. Such as OJ Simpson. OJ beat the criminal lawsuit, and lost the civil lawsuit for wrongful death.
