Pet Chimpanzee Attacks woman bites off her hands
http://www.courant.com/news/local/hc...,3488372.story
A pet chimpanzee was fatally shot by police after leaving a woman in critical condition in a violent attack at a Stamford home Monday. Police said the 200-pound chimp, named Travis, had been rambunctious all day and expressed to its owner, 70-year-old Sandra Herold, that it wanted to take a ride in the car. Police said the chimp grabbed the keys and let himself out of the house. Herold tried to calm the chimp down by giving him tea laced with Xanax, but it didn't seem to work, police said. Herold then called her 55-year-old friend, Charla Nash, to help. Stamford police said when Nash pulled up to the house, the chimp ran over and mauled her. Officials called the attack "lengthy and vicious." Herold called 911 and went to help her friend. Police said she grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the animal, whom she owned for nearly 15 years, repeatedly before police arrived. Police said Travis then ran over to the police cruisers and broke a mirror off one of the vehicles. They said the animal then opened the cruiser door and moved as though he was going to attack an officer. The officer shot the chimp at close range before the animal ran off, police said. Officers followed the blood trail and found the chimp dead in its living quarters at the home, police said. Police said Nash was transported to Stamford Hospital with life-threatening and "life-changing" injuries. Neighbors told Eyewitness News that the chimp bit the woman's hands off. Neighbors told Eyewitness News that Travis was like a part of Herold's family and that she viewed him as her own child. "She lived for this chimp," said Mecca. "This chimp was like her child." Monday was not the animal's first encounter with the law. The chimp escaped from a vehicle in downtown Stamford in 2003 for several hours before police put down the animal with a tranquilizer gun.

read about this one this morning... this is why i dont agree with people having exotic pets... no matter how much you tame them at the end of the day there still wild animals and have inheriant animal instinct. Ill admit, it would be cool as shit to have a chimp but when you think of the ramifications of shit like that it makes you rethink it

It's a lot easier to get a chimp in roller skates than it is to get him to pump iron — hence, most of the data on chimp strength is anecdotal and decidedly unscientific. In tests at the Bronx Zoo in 1924, a dynamometer — a scale that measures the mechanical force of a pull on a spring — was erected in the monkey house. A 165-pound male chimpanzee named "Boma" registered a pull of 847 pounds, using only his right hand (although he did have his feet braced against the wall, being somewhat hip, in his simian way, to the principles of leverage). A 165-pound man, by comparison, could manage a one-handed pull of about 210 pounds. Even more frightening, a female chimp, weighing a mere 135 pounds and going by the name of Suzette, checked in with a one-handed pull of 1,260 pounds.

Ask this fellow if it's a joking matter.
AN animal lover whose nose was bitten off and his testicles mauled by two chimps has made an appeal for his missing pet monkey.
Horrifically disfigured St. James Davis was attacked in 2005 after going to see his house-trained chimp in an animal sanctuary.
Two other monkeys escaped their cage and set upon him.
The chimps nearly killed Mr Davis, from West Govina, in eastern California, chewing off his nose, testicles and foot.
They also bit off chunks of his buttocks and legs before the sanctuary owner shot the animals dead.
WARNING: Scary pic coming up. Scroll down at your own discretion!

That pic is nasty as hell, but I have seen stuff like that before. I see some pins, must be for a fake nose. Still not something that would be easy to see in the mirror no doubt.
These animals should not be allowed in private neighborhoods. Sorry.

Screw whatever gun laws are/come into place. If my neighbor owns a monkey, I'm owning a shotgun.
I hate monkeys..
