Rough/notchy shifting while driving; 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears are especially the worst. Not affected if the car is not running, the transmission shifts very smooth if the engine is off.
Most times (95% of the time), 1st gear binds and is difficult to engage both at a stop and moving. I have to use force to shift into gear or double clutch. Release the clutch, reengage it and shift. This method is not always 100% and I usually end up forcing it into 1st.
The rough/notchy shifting is worse in lower temperatures below 45℉ and also at high RPMs above 4000 or so.
The transmission sometimes makes a whining noise and vibrates when decelerating from a high RPM (4000-4500) in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gears. When this happens, I place the transmission into neutral and coast until the speed is correct for downshifting into the appropriate gear, for fear of damaging the transmission.
There are numerous concerned owners of 2011 Mustangs with MT-82 transmissions made in China that are publicly documented.

I was set to buy one, until I test drove a few. Felt like big bulky boxes, and shifting was sloppy. Got my Trans Am instead.

Light Pewter Metallic- y2k 8-cylinder catfish
And Ford's trying to avoid doing a recall for repairs? Wow, that won't bode well for them.

Phantom Black Metallic- 2004 GTO M6
I know this. I have seen more 5th gens on the roads than the 5.0s. And I am seeing MORE 5th gen droptops on the roads as well. I am waiting to see some 45th Anniversary Camaros out and about soon.

Looks to me like the issues are in relation to the fluid as much as anything.
Remember.....the T56 is American made. The ZF started out in Germany and was brought to the US of A and because worse due to making it cheap.
I wouldnt hesitate to purchase a new 5.0, not in the least. It cant be any worse than the stock 4L60-E and the T56 in the LS1 cars. Lots of horror stories out there regardling the LS1 T56 units, more so than the LT1 T56. Also, how many of you bagging on the tranny in the 5.0 still are riding on the stock 10-bolt?

Fords trying to dodge all sorts of stuff, you see what happened with those raptors out in the desert that the drivers assumed they were using as intended?
Bent the frames in half because they put the bump stop for the suspension on the weakest part of the whole frame.Last edited by 95camaroZNC; 08-01-2011 at 08:10 PM.

The main problem on 5.0s is the trans?
Ford used a t-56 on 03/04 cobra. Why not use it on the new mustang?
I could be so wrong but I read a while ago GM, DODGE, and mustang cobra use the same trans is that true?

I had to read that link lol. Damn I feel so sorry for mustang lovers.
I'm so glad GM hasn't done something similar to that.
10 bolt is a problem but you can get lucky.
I'm so proud to love GM & MOPAR. best American cars ever to me.

Yes and no.
A T56 is not a T56 is not a T56.
Lots of different versions though they are related. Some have different gear ratios, different sized input and output shafts, and I believe cases can vary (from Dodge to GM to Ford)......etc For instance, some T56s in F-bodies I believe are rated for 400 tq and other are rated at 450. The Viper would make short work of the lesser or even the higher of the F-body units.

Red Tint Jewelcoat- 2008 Trailblazer SS
I beat the ever loving piss out of a 1999 factory T56. 531RWHP and launching from 6500RPM. Never a problem that wasn't my fault (clutch).
Some hold, some don't. Start abusing shit and it tends to break.
Ford, GM, Dodge.....all have their issues.
Granted this tranny issue on the GT's is discerning.
