Painting a house
My wife and I are painting an entire house...top to bottom, ceilings too, complete color changes in each room. What do you guys suggest? Any techniques or "best tools" to use? We'll be painting base boards and trims, gonna have different colors meet in corners too. Do we start by painting nutrals or the bright colors first? Also, consider we won't have any carpet in the house during painting =)

"Not crazy about the Browns" <-----Current Nfl commercials
You need a more 'blended' color rather than the wild solids.
I like some of the toupes that are popular atm.
Just make sure it will be something you can live with for a few years.

1st pic, paint the room to compliment the dark grey carpet...
2nd & 3rd pic, lose the purple and get darker wood flooring...
4th pic, same comment as to the 1st pic, and ditch the TV wall stand...
5th pic, paint the gray lower portion of the wall a shade of darker red to compliment the top. there is potiental for the last room to look great. paint the circut panel door wall color also...think earth tones
if anything perhaps just chaning out the dark grey carpet might be a thought, then you dont have to dick with repainting anything...

learned this from experience, if you spend more time prepping you'll get better results. take your time doing it too, and good luck.

Blackety Black- 35th Anniversary SS
To get cool textures you can get paints with a fine sand in it to give it dept, and apply it with a sponge, washcloth, handheld straw broom to get a texture. Or if you have something somewhat soft that you like the patter/shapes of you can apply the paint with that. It's time consuming but my mom used a different paint applicator per room in her house and it turned out great. Then on the ceiling she used white paint and applied it with the straw hand broom. Did back and fourth sweeps in about 3x3 squares at a time. It looked pretty cool.
Another thing you can do is double up colors. My one friend painted a solid firey red on the walls then got a semi-transparent black paint and applied it with a very large-pored sponge and the red showed thru. It looked awesome.

techniques would be "get the paint on the walls " and special tools would be a trim brush and a roller w/ a stick. its not rocket science. trim , cut, then roll (slowly).

The most important thing in rolling paint is always finish with a downstroke. It makes the light reflect off of it more even because light comes from above.
