Olympic bobsledder dies during training run today.
I heard about the crash earlier, but all I had heard was that someone was air lifted off a track. Didn't know if it was skiing or what. Saw a link on AOL saying a Luger had died.
Here is a link (not AOL), that also includes a video of the crash, if anybody is willing to watch it.

Edit: I just realized that Bobsledding is different than Luging. My bad.Last edited by kickflippin1; 02-12-2010 at 04:44 PM.

Wow that sucks. Why would they have exposed steel beams next to that tight of a corner?

Yeah....88mph into a steel pole head first...nothing you could wear would protect you from that (unless it was a flux capacitor).

Really sad. I couldn't watch the video again.
He did get a boo boo, a deadly boo boo. I seriously hope extra precautions are taken.
RIP. Was probably a great kid.

They ust have showed the video 5 times... can't believe they showed it. You would think they would have at least some foam padding or something around there. It's sad, but the guy was doing something he loved.

at 80+mph I don't even think foam padding would help much when you're talking about I-beams. They need a catch fence there to keep people from getting outside the track. Even then I'm not sure how much you can do for someone traveling at those speeds.

Well a catch fence would be kept him from cracking his head off the pillar... probally still some major injuries... but better than getting killed.

maybe a type of plexi-glass like they have at hockey rinks surrounding the course would do it to...unless you really fuck up and launch up and over it....but the plexi glass will just kinda toss u back into the course

well also, him traveling at 88mph, its not like he had much time to react to what was about to happen.not even enough time to think about what was going to happen. he maybe had a split second to react if that...i dont think he suffered from that accident tho...
