OKC NBA Team Name announced

04/01/2008, Oklahoma City, OK – The National Basketball Association's newly relocated franchise will be named the Oklahoma Landgrabbers, it was announced today by team owner Clay Bennett. NBA Commissioner David Stern and Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett joined Bennett as the new team’s name, logo and colors were unveiled to fans at a team-hosted basketball street festival in the center of Oklahoma City.

“It is with great pride that I introduce the newest symbol of Oklahoma City,” said Bennett, whose team will begin play in the 2009-2010 season. “Please welcome your Oklahoma Landgrabbers.”

“With a name, logo and colors that are unique in the world of professional sports, the identity of the new Oklahoma Landgrabbers delivers a strong message that professional basketball is back and here to stay in the city.”

The Oklahoma Landgrabbers logo depicts the spirit of the new franchise, illustrating the team’s aggressive hopes and aspirations. The logo draws on the distinctive features of the Schooners, featuring the vehicle’s sleek profile as if poised for landgrabbing with wheels primed and the cover stretched tight. The schooner profile and Landgrabbers word mark are retained within the outline of the logo, with the name Oklahoma placed across the top. A robust white, referred to as Landgrabbers Cream, fills the schooner profile and is the primary color of the logo. A rich red, referred to as Landgrabbers Crimson, joins Landgrabbers Cream in making up the two colors of the new team’s identity.

The team also announced the launch of their new website, www.oklahomalandgrabbers.com, where fans can visit for all of the latest Oklahoma Landgrabbers news and information.
