Sorry Sarge, not discrediting you at all. I'd like to think I have an open mind... I was just commenting on Raynor's assumption that I'm a guy, not trying to prove anything. I'm pretty good in that area... Thanks.

No need for sorry...the response was about the Pennzoil "makes sludge" ridiculous comment and you running Royal Purple. Lots of info ( real) dispelling the sludge myth and the quality of Royal Purple being on par with .99 cents a quart WolfsHead Motor Oil.

Her source is her dad, so good luck arguing that one

However, I will second the fact that I think Penzoil conventional earned a bad rep for a reason (yes I'm biased because I'm married to Fab but I also had the same opinion well before I met her dad)..... for that reason I haven't really wanted to try Penzoil Platinum and even though i'm sure it's great, there are several other brands I would prefer to stick with.

To clarify I do prefer ashland oil in most of my vehicles and usually do Mobile 1 syn or every once in a while RP in the bird. Say what you will as far as my choices but those are my choices

I know the old Quaker state oil was bad about carboning up in engines. I used to work at a shop where a guy had a mid 70's Oldsmobile that he regularly ,aintained at this shop, changed his oil every 3000 miles, blah blah blah, the whole routine. Had to remove the intake for something and the entire area between the intake and lifter valley was pure carbon(not sludge). The only oil he used was Quaker State and the car never ran hotter than normal. Another guy ran Castrol from day one in an early 80's ranger with the V6, had over 300,000 miles and the inside of the engine was as clean as when it was new. I think Quaker State has changed formulas by now, I hope, but never use it or Pennzoil. I use Castrol, Valvoline, or Mobil 1. In my crappy beater I sometimes use the WalFart Supertech oil, lol. Its actuall not a bad oil.
