Oil??
Ok I know this is not a diesel site, since my LS1 is gone I wanted to ask y'all If you think Synthetic is a good buy. My diesel takes 15qts so synthetic oil would be about $100 thats just oil or I could just stay with the Rotella T that cost about $27 for 4 gallons. So is synthetic worth it??? Please help.

Exactly what is the recommended oil specification for that engine and whatever it is, look for the same or better specification on the oil container label.
Putting oil that doesn't come up to the minimum spec in a diesel is a recipe for failure.

Is synthetic worth it for your diesal? Nope....Rotella or the new Delo ( Chevron...got Moly) is great for extended OCI with great UOA's....I'd stick with either Rotella or Chevron Delo and go like hell for a million miles or so and buy another F-Body with your oil savings money

API and CI-4 plus is what it has to have and I know Delo and Rotella has that. So I'm not sure if Synthetic is worth it, like Sarge said.

Yup...you'll probably see a SL rating for gas engines and a CI4+for the knocker...."Most recently, API has issued an upgrade to its CI-4 specification, CI-4 PLUS, and began licensing on September 1. It is expected to provide a higher level of protection for EGR engines through improved oxidation resistance, shear stability, acid neutralization and soot dispersancy. CI-4 PLUS certified diesel oils also meet most of the individual manufacturer-issued specifications and are backward compatible with older diesel oil specifications and engines. CI-4 PLUS oils must first meet the original requirements of CI-4, with the additional requirements of passing the 90-Pass Shear Stability Bench Test and the new Mack T-11 engine test, a more stringent upgrade of the Mack T-8E soot-viscosity test required for CI-4...."
