    OBX - What to do?

In the Outer Banks for a week... but the beach is really not my thing. In past years, I've been to a few lighthouses and such, scarfed some good seafood, went to Kitty Hawk, visited Manteo... looking for something different to do this year. Any suggestions?

The beach isn't my thing either.... I would always go golfing and fishing when we would go to the beach. I'm more of a mountains kind of guy.

Not a whole lot to do in OBX except for see lighthouses and explore beaches. You can rent dune buggies in Kittyhawk which is alot of fun if you have never done that plus you can hang glide there. Theres also some fishing tours you can do.

The flights look cool -- especially the bi-plane. Not sure about the hang gliding... I like having a power source other than air currents.

rent a jeep and drive the corolla beach on the northern part, take one of the ATV trips to see the wild horses, there is an aquarium on ronoake Island I think, if your into fishing there are a few piers you can hit, there are go cart tracks, mini golf places , you can rent kayaks and waverunners .there is a whole lot there to do. Oh 2 places I reccomend as far as eating. the black pelican and the sunset bar and grill. there may also be boats that take you out to see the dolphins and whales, can't remember been awhile since I been down there.

We drove on the beach a couple of times in years past. That was a lot of fun. The outdoor activities are tough for me -- I don't do heat. It was in the 90's here today. There used to be a buffet called "The Wharf" around the Nags Head area that we would gorge at, but it closed a few years ago.

maybe you should have went to Alaska then we did tend to stay close to the house during the day and head out to do stuff in the evening. I usually hit the beach to do surf fishing in water up to my chest during the day while the wife and son(then he was no older than 2 ) would sit on the beach and play in the sand.

My brother lives in Anchorage -- we go up every couple of years. He was just home last week though, so the timing would not have worked out.

You should hit up the Aquarium in Manteo at some point. It's huge!

    You could go kayaking.

Take a tour of the Whalehead club in Corolla (near the lighthouse), if you are in to history/architecture.

Never knew that you could tour the Club. May have to check that out. I might take a drive down south this week, so the aquarium is a possibility.

yeah it's an audio tour of the house and tells you about all of the history and stuff. pretty neat if you're into that sort of thing. there's also a new wildlife exhibit on the property (bunch of stuffed animals). at the wildlife center we saw a 20 minute movie on the migratory bird hunting in the area back in the early 1900s. that's what the club was built for in the first place.

Dual Action Orbital Sander -- hence, "D.A." However, I do have a nice Lady of Justice poster that I will occasionally touch one off to.

I have to take my daughter out for seafood every year. She was probably 8 years old on her first trip down here, back in around 2004. This was shortly after we adopted her, and she said to me that she wanted to eat clams. Not many 8 year olds I know will eat them. I was a bit skeptical, but off we went to Awful Arthurs and by goodness, she ate a whole plate of Clams Casino. I bought her a shirt and took her picture out by the restaurant sign as it was just one of those "going to be memorable" events.
