no head gasket
so.... working on my header swap i managed to break off a bolt in the head... the far back bolt was already broken off, i hadnt touched that one... on the front bolt i broke 2 easy outs trying to get it out... and managed to fuck up the area around the bolt... the rear i managed to break my last easy out, 3 bits, and then managed to break the bolt off a little further inside the head...
said fuck it and put the headers on anyway 2 bolts shy. they leaked so i threw some of that high temp voodoo shit on it and managed to fix it, atleast temporally. it only has to hold till next winter when i do a H/C/I...
a buddy of mine was replacing the head on his camry (beater car), forgot to put the head gasket on. i showed up just after he finished putting all the covers on and hooking the intake up and found a brand new headgasket sitting in the passenger seat, with the old one in the floorboard. well, he starts it and it runs fine... hes put about 1k miles on it and hasnt had the first problem yet.
how is it i can have such shitty luck and he can wallow in horse shit and come out smelling like a rose...

my Saturn desperately needs a valve cover gasket. I knew this last summer but didnt' do anything.... now I am paying the price by smelling oil all the freakin time. It has some sort of oil jet in the valve cover by the number 1 and 2 cylinders so the first sign of a bad VC gasket is oil in the plug wells.... saw that last year.... now it's seeping through the sides and coating the whole block and burning off the exhaust manifold..... it's only 31 bucks but it's freezing out so i really don't want to do it. That and it's frightening to think that the saturn VC bolts only torque to 6 in-lb. yes... INCH pounds..... they are designed to snap if any more force is applied. So i need a good in-lb torque wrench like yesterday. Good news is that with that little force I should be able to take em out with my pinkie nail.

No gasket? I read that right yes? That should put his compression somewhere near "pings like a bish!"

I'm not near as smart as a lot of other members but that blows my mind!! Only thing I could think of is the deck of the block and the surface of the head are that square (flat) that they bolt tightly together. Thats a crazy story to say the least. If I'm wrong, go ahead and chime in and enlighten me

We had a customer bring their Kia spectra in for an overheating issue with 15k on it and we found there was no headgasket from the factory. Took a pic and sent it to our Rep who couldn't believe it.
