Nissan refuses to replace GT-R owner's busted transmission
A member of the North American GT-R Owner's Club forums started a thread recently in which he tells about dropping off his Nissan GT-R at the dealership when he began hearing loud noises coming from the rear of the car. The dealership told him that his transmission was toast as a direct result of him turning off the car's VDC (Vehicle Dynamic Control) too much, which you have to do in order to use the Launch Control function. The cost to repair the tranny is $20,000 and Nissan won't cover it under warranty since the GT-R owner's manual states that damage to the transmission is not covered if it is proven to be the result of using Launch Control with the VDC turned off. In fact, the manual states that the only reason you should turn off VDC is for when you're rocking the vehicle because it's stuck in mud or snow. That's kind of like Nissan saying you should never use the Launch Control function despite the fact it's there.

Pewter Metallic- 2002 Trans Am WS6 M6 D1SC
Thats bullshit. I knew these cars would come back and bite their owners in the ass. Especially since they dont want you to do any modification to them.

nice way to get around a lot of really expensive trans repairs on nissans behalf.
tell the customer up front that they are buying the ultimate in sports cars and that in order to use the cars sportiest feature that you have to turn this thing off. and then tell them in the owners manual that if you turn it off and your trans breaks that you won't cover it.
it's really shitty and poor marketing and poor customer service...but wow...you gotta hand it to nissan for finding a way to legally fuck their loyal customers.

Sounds like they knew it would break over time, and they put that there to save money. Fuck that. If I had that car I would sell it and talk as much shit as possible, and get the word around.

Well, if they're anything like a normal transmission repair shop....
Neat story. Friend of mine has a Dodge 2500 with the diesel, long story short, it broke, he had it rebuilt. Had a receipt showing all the new parts that were replaced and the work done. Few months go by, trans goes bad again. Takes it to a different shop, and upon review, the transmission needs 'X' parts again, mind you all of these had just been replaced. My friend says to the guy "but i just had all this work done to it", to which the shop owner replied "oh, well, bring in your receipt and we'll see which parts you don't need".
Uh, hi? WTF just happened? Do transmission rebuilds come with Vaseline?
