New Orleans Zoo & Aquarium

This is for the New Orleans members -

Have ya'll been to the zoo or aquarium in NO? If so would you recommend it?

I'd like to hear some input before driving 3 hrs to go see a lame exhibit. Wife wants to take the kids to see some of their cousins in the zoo before school starts.

Has NO been fixed, last I herd was not fully and far from it? Just the money making areas been fixed, I want to go there someday again. I went there after the storm it was horible. We had to leave for safety reasons...

I believe it's fully up and running for the last couple of years. It took a while to clean it up after katrina.

My stepdad was there with a power company, he was working on there helicopter... Since we was close we went there to visit for a week or so (help out etc)... As they would fly into the powerlines to work, they got shot at. After a while, all air craft had to have a security personal in the air craft. I think that company ended up with Blackwater guys... Last I herd, NO never paid the company and in turn the company pulled out (never finished restoring power). I am sure they hired someone else though...

Haven't been in about 6 months. But it is worth it. We have a membership to both, and my son, 6 now, loves it. You can also take a ferry ride from the zoo to the aquarium. The only problem with going now, is the heat. Some of the animals may not be out (they seem to like to stay indoors where it is cooler.) The aquarium is nice and cool. We are only an hour away, but it is worth it every time we go.

The aquarium is worth it. Like said above the zoo is awesome but its hot as hell outside. I took my 2 yr old son a couple months ago and he loved it. Despite what was said above yes there are shootings but not around the tourist areas.
