New Car Tax Question
About a month ago I bought a vehicle in Indiana from a dealership.
This is the first vehicle I have ever bought by myself. (I just wrote the check while my Dad did all the negotiating/paperwork) So I was nervous sitting in the dealership. I paid for the vehicle.
After looking over all of the paperwork now I realized that I paid 7% tax in Indiana.
I called up the local DMV. They said that I am unable to transfer that tax from Indiana to Iowa and I would have to pay tax again.
Is this true?
Any other advice on getting the money back from the dealership/state would be appreciated.
I know I made a mistake, but I figured that the dealership would know enough not to charge me tax or have checked to make sure I would not have to be paying again.
Any help is appreciated

Better get a hold of the dealership!

I would go back to the dealership and tell them they made a mistake. Which they did. They should cut you a check since you paid by check.

Their finance department should have caught that. I'd call them up and let them know about the mistake. They can't just assume you live in their state because you bought it there.

Well apparently no one really knows whats happening.
The DMV finally did some checking and found out that if I can prove that I paid tax in another state, I do not have to pay it again.
I have all the correct forms so it shouldn't be an issue proving that.
The one thing that is a bitch is that I paid 7% Indiana tax and Iowa tax is 5% for vehicle purchases.
I'm not sure I want to fight with the dealership over 2%. I guess I will just count that as the cost of not knowing every minute detail of the car buying process.

Gotta fight for the 2%. That's your money, why give it to the dealership that tried to fuck ya?
