Need some help fellas!
So the wife's 01 Mitsubishi Montero dies after hard braking, there is no check engine light and it has a new battery (about a month old) any ideas on what it could be? I also just cleaned the maf and throttle body about a month ago also because it was stuttering and doing the same thing but that solved the issue then. Need some ideas here fellas!

Sounds like an inertia switch. Mutangs (99-04 for sure) had a reset switch back by one of the tail lights. Basically, it was to cut off fuel if you got in an accident but could be manually reset. Google for your vehicle to see if it has one then go check it out. Hard braking is similar to an accident.

It also does it when you turn it on though, it doesn't completely die but rpms drop way low and then climb back up. I believe only Ford products have the inertia switch on them

I bet you I have the answer. You said new battery? My Camaro did the same thing after I changed my battery. I didn't tighten it down tight enough and left the battery tie down off I'd accelerate or brake or turn and the car would almost die if not die. I figured it out right after that. Give it a check and make sure (Especially if you didn't put the battery in and some mechanic did it)

Yup I retightened and cleaned the terminal batteries also and it's still doing it. I took it to get the oil changed since it was overdue and the oil was somewhat low, seems to have gotten better after the full service was done to it. Also if it was fuel pressure wouldnt it stutter on hard or any acceleration too? It accelerates just fine under hard acceleration and normal acceleration too. I threw some fuel system cleaner in the fuel tank after fill up so hopefully that cleans up the deal somewhat and makes it better. I was thinking it could be the tps or iac sensors but it would throw a code with those and if it was the tps then acceleration would be crazy outta place and wouldn't respond right? Or if it was the iac then it wouldn't idle right either right? She's gonna take it to work tomorrow again and report back on how it acts. Thanks guys!

If the IAC is bad, the car will idle high. This will not always throw a code.

It idles just fine though, and revs up just fine also when it is sitting. So I guess that cancels this out?
I checked for vacuum leaks by spraying maf cleaner on all vacuum hoses and got no engine stutters or anything similar. Maf cleaner works just as good as crab cleaner for this right?
She took it to work this morning and she said it did very good, she does drive about 35-45 minutes to get to work.

I have no idea, just a roofer here, but does it do it just in gear? Is it possible you have a bad stall convertor? Low tranny fluid? Something along those lines?
