Need help deciding on truck/suv
I've been looking for a truck/suv and have narrowed it down to 3.
In no particular order
1. 06+ Dodge ram
2. Trailblazer SS
3. Toyota fj cruiser. Before people bash me for this one. Check out this fj this is what makes me want one. http://www.fjcruiseraccessory.com/fjcractr.html
I'm really looking for something with some room someing me, my gf and dog can all hop in and go. Its really a pain with the three of us in the z28. All three get similar gas milage and are all roughly around what i'm looking to spend 18-19k max. The dodge is the cheapest, easiest to find, also have the lowest milage 12-15k, and I think would be nice and roomy to drive everyday not to mention the versatility of having a truck. The tbss and fj are both a bit more and much harder to come by especailly the tbss. The tbss would be a blast to drive and the fj with the right wheels and tires is just sexy imo. The dodge and tbss I could live with in stock exterior form but the fj would for sure need a new set of wheels and tires so that throws the fj at the most expensive as that will add another 2-3k on top of the price. Also this will be a second vehicle I will be keeping the z28. I just can't decide

Get the trail SS
The quality control of the rams isn't all that great...if you get one make sure you get a warranty.
FJ screams tree hugger or homo...if there's a difference.

The SS is a nice ride im looking into getting one myself.I like the FJ also, but do you plan on going off road with it.I think the FJ would be more practical for outdoor stuff. But the SS would be better for hauling stuff and friends or kids down the rode.

Black 2002 T/A M6- Green 1997 Ram 4x4
My dad bought an 04 Dodge Ram 1500 brand new. It's got 96k on the ticker now if I remember right, and the worst problem he's had out of it was a flat tire. Been a great truck. Can't go wrong with it in my opinion.

The SS would be the most fun of those listed.

Fun speed wise yea but it's also fun and useful to haul/tow stuff....to me anyway.
When it comes down to it what do you really need? All 3 of those can tow but the truck can tow twice as much...and only the truck can haul any decent amount. Four door trucks are just as good as SUV's now-a-days anyway..hell the 09 rams even have a rear 5-link coil suspension.

I like my Dodge. The FJ Cruisers are a neat vehicle, but if you get one, make goddamn sure its got the color matched top. I HATE HATE HATE the white top, i dont care how much of a throw back it is to the original. White top=homo. Colormatch top=win.

The F-Gay cruiser ins't all that. You can throw a mild lift and wheels on just about anything and make it look cool.
And why spend 18-19k? Get a 2004 Grand Cherokee (WJ) for 12 and be done with it. Another two grand for a lift and wheels/tires, and you're all set. More practical AND more capable than the F-Gay.
Or if you like a fancier wheel:
A newer Wrangler would be a great choice too, although you probably won't get the new body style (JK) for that price, although you could get the previous body style (TJ) for under it. A long wheelbase TJ is a great rig too.
TB SS would be fun too I guess.Last edited by StuntmanMike; 01-18-2009 at 09:00 AM.

I know it isn't on your list, but instead of the Ram, have you considered an Avalanche?
Roomy, capable, and if you get one without the Rubbermaid/Robocop "styling" accents they look very nice.
4 door versatility with the added benefit of an 8 foot bed when necessary.
That said, out of those 3, if you are actually going to go off road, FJ cruiser.

Oh and jonB..there's guys on the dodgeforum buying leftover brand new 08 QC's for around 20k easy. Just saying you can get a well optioned brand new ram with lifetime powertrain for less than a used SS or around the same price as a used gay FJ.
Yes it's a double post...my fault

I like the H3, as long as it had the adventure package (4:1 low range, lockers etc), but my problem with the H3 is that it seems that visibility would be a big problem, as the windows look so narrow. Seem like it would be like driving a pillbox.
Plus I just don't like IFS, which is why I like the pre-'05 Grand Cherokess since they still have the solid front axle. I'm just old school like that.
