Navy Blue Metallic- 98 T/A w/ mods, 00 FBVert
My scars are bigger then yours....
WARNING....THESE ARE VERY GRAPHIC.......
I was digging around on the 'puter and came across these. Some were taken after my surgery and others some months much later. Still look the same today as back then in July 04....
Back story - This is what happens when you carry 80lbs of combat gear doing an 8 mile road march in 2hrs in 95 degree wx in July @ Ft Campbell and ignore the cramping in your legs..

Acute Compartment Syndrome = (in english) means severe muscle death.....Almost lost my legs, If I was in a different hospital they would have just took 'em, Dr gambled on seeing if I would be able to walk with so much damage. Screw Kidney stones, nothing hurts more than muscle death, NOTHING!!
Also the openings are the treatment, it is to let the muscle expand/swell up, other wise it forces the blood out and kills the muscle, then the toxicity goes into blood stream and then kills you.....

holy god..never even heard of such a thing. Did malnutrition along with being overworked cause it? I've been on some pretty shitty humps too and never had muscle die on me...that's weird.

Nope just push pass the cramping. 95% of ppl who get this are from crushing injuries, the other 5% come from physical induce

Took 1 yr to learn how to walk with 2 Jimmy crutches, I'll never run again, then again they told me I'll never walk again. I get around now with one Jimmy crutch and still need a wheel chair if I go to a store and have to stand longer than 20- 30 mins. I can also walk about 300 ft before my legs start to really hurt. It took 2 1/2 yrs to regain most of my feeling below both knees, now I just can't feel around the ankles, every where else I can.

wow that's crazy. Hope your getting good disability from the military for that (although I'd still rather be able to walk and run.)

I have skin graphs on the muscle that you see, It was applied direct to the muscle. They couldn't close it because my legs are 4 times the size they were before the accident. Could stretch the skin that far. PPl look at them thinking my legs are really fat, then they see that it is all muscle.

I'm in the same boat on running although mine was inflicted from stupidity. I can only jog or do an akward run and my ankle kills me the next day if I do. Had to have cartiledge removed from the joint as well as a plate, 5 screws, 2 pieces of wire, and 8 strands of kevlar filament that hold my ankle together.
What I'd give to be able to play baseball or soccer and not worry about injuries again.

Rope swing into a lake. I hit a root from the tree I was swinging from sideways and my other leg hit my right leg and snapped it across the root. 4 surgeries and it's a lot better but I still can't run.
Nothing compared to yours though.

So this can all happen just from working through a bad muscle cramps? I've never heard of that before. Obviously had you stopped walking/hiking it could have been prevented but do they actually even give you that option in the military? I think thats fucked up especially because it seems so avoidable?
