1958 chevy pickup 283- 02 gmc z71 5.3L white
my 58 chevy
damn, its been sitting almost a year nowat my grandpas farm(boot camp + some other training).... it had been sitting for 25 years when i got it and i got her running again and started body work.. it has a 283 out of a 64 impala with a chrysler(i know its weird) auto tranny that the last owner put in way back in the 60's.... she starts up evertime on the first try and now im torn... i was planning on repainting, lowering, and maybe some custom work.... but now im thinking frame off with a fat little something in between the frame rails... that 283 would be perfect for a rat rod i wanna do.......
so whats yall opinion, here is a few pics i snapped today after replacing the thermostat(old one was stuck and causing it to overheat)
ignore the pos in the background
this spot was completly rusted out

i'm not a big fan of old trucks. classic cars are sweet and rat rods rule...but trucks...not real big on.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
Finding a Chrysler 3 speed auto tranny behind another makes engine isn't that uncommon as they made the best auto trannies back in the day and quite a few aftermarket companies made adapter plates.
Q: Is is a push button tranny?

You probably have an A727 but it might have started out as a push button type tranny. Maybe not as it has a 64 283 in front of it. Check this for type: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TorqueFlite

Yep....that would be a 727 Tourqueflight (sp) tranny. They were stout as fuck, but I promise, you can shell one....I did. The A727's were the column shifts. I think the C model was the floor shifter. also, and I could be wrong, i think the last year of the push button in the old Chizzler's was '63.

Both my 66 Charger and 67 Barracuda had 383's with 727 Torqueflite's. Very good combinations.

it could have been push button, the old man i bought it off of was an amazing mechanic who retired a few years ago, he might have changed it over...
i havent decided yet on what route to go, but that would be nice
ya i remember him saying something about tourqueflight
