Mustang Question????

Ok i have a question can some one tell me how ford got the idea of cross breeding a snake and a horse to come up with a Mustang Cobra. what the hell does a horse and a snake have in common to be a name of a car. i mean i understand the mustang but the cobra part???? i just dont get it.

are you really losing sleep over this?

fwiw the cobra was not initially a mustang, it was shelby's a/c cobra race car, after that the name cobra was designated to shelby built vehicles.

after the success of shelby in the race circuit and in the late 60's street performance the name just kind of became the mustang 'performance' car

basically what ztrouble said. I don't think theres any real reason other then a cobra snake is supposed to be "badass"

That's funny. For some reason I was picturing some kid on a bike beating a Mustang Cobra........maybe because I used to own a pretty sweet yellow Mongoose 10-speed...I think I put more miles on that when I was a kid than I have currently on the SS(113k).

I read somewhere that Shelby got inspiration for the nameplate after having a dream about the cobra.

At the very least it would make a great personalized tag for a built LS1..MONGOOS (i have a 7 letter limit here in OK) or something along that line, i'm not very creative.

Too late the Mustang GT has a few S/C kits that are called Mongoose kits because of there ability to outperform a stock Cobra.

This is true though. Chevy does not have a cool animal for a vehicle. Every other brand pretty much does.

Cobra....Viper....Firehawk...ect.

Remember the Monza Spider with the big ass spider on the hood? I almost bought one of those back in the 80's but the guy wanted to much for it. Wish I had it now, it'd have to be worth a little something.
