Murder after Midnight would like advice...........
I'm debating if I should go to law school, I have already been out of school for 2 years working and things have been going good but I'm sure I don't won't continue working for the same company for the next 20-40 years.
I am interested in becoming a ip lawyer. With a Engineering degree and law degree I know I would def be more marketable in this tough economy. One of the reasons i'm debating this is i would have to take out a large loan 50-70k
and that's alot of money. I don't owe any money from my undergrad and I dont have any personal debt, and I only pay $400 a month rent. But I'm not sure i want to walk into 50k+ debt lol. So I would like some mature advice on this.
thanks in advance.

It's a big committment but your still young yet, so now is the time to do it. If your willing to do the work and if becoming an ip lawyer is what u want and what will make u happy, go for it! 20 years from now, u may be kicking yourself for not making the attempt if you don't follow your dream.

As a guy that "took a few years off" to figure out what I wanted....
I can tell you to "Get Your Ass to School !" Yeh. I got to see some cool places.. Met some Great People. Owned some cool ass cars..
Now I am in my 40's.. Work 12 hours a day. Make 45k ish a year.. Wife has FOUR years into a degree.. Makes over twice what I do...Telecommutes (works from home) two days a week blah blah blah Doesn't work all that hard etc..
NOTHING to me would be more important than an education/bettering yourself when your young and have the time to enjoy the benefits from that in your later years..
They say it's never too late to start.. but they're wrong.. when your 40 with multiple car payments, monthly expenses etc...It's too damn late. I can't tell you how many times I wished I had spent my teen/early 20s in school and not traipsing all over the damn country etc...God only knows how many guys have sat down one night, looked back at their lives and realized... Just what I am telling you now.. Which is what my Uncle told me when I was 19 and Just HAD to go to Europe/Florida/Cali etc..If I had done what you are thinking about.. I could go there now.. in style, with cash then come home to a nice home etc. Just a few words from someone that wishes he had done it different.
I really enjoy my memories of traipsing about.. but that sure as shit don't pay any bills now.

I'll assume that since you're still applying to the other three, that at least one of the other three is more prestigious / higher ranked / better etc.
1. Apply to all
2. Go to the best one you get accepted to
3. Study hard and graduate
4. ???
5. Profit
<-- Proponent of high education

I agree.. if its something you want to do.. are willing to put the effort in.. and have the support to get you there.. then do it. If you are lacking in any/all of those areas.. think hard about it.
Push a pencil about how much everything will cost (with loans, etc) to give yourself a better picture.-Geno

Don't let numbers scare you. Education is the best investment you can make.
That amount sounds daunting but it's in the form of student loans at, what, 4% interest? It's not like it's CC or other consumer debt (In which case, a person should /wrists if they amass that amount of consumer debt).
Pros > Cons. You've been talking about this for as long as I can remember. Go after your dreams.

student loans are around 8.5%...
but any way, look at it this way... Think about the money you wont be making if you dont get the law degree. Yes 40k is alot but if you are making 100+k in a year 40k doesnt look like a huge amount to pay back over the years. If you only make 40k a year now, then your first year out of college with a new job making 100k you could pay your loan back and still have 60k in the first year.
Education is the best thing to invest in, there is absolutly no loss in it.
