MTV played music videos?
So my 15 year old nephew was over the other day and was telling me he was digging some new music from an old band called Def Leppard. I told him I had some of their music, but it was on cassette tape, and I also told him when I was his age that I liked them too and would watch music videos of them and other bands on MTV. He got this strange look on his face and said " you mean MTV used to play music videos?" I said believe it or not they sure did some years back. I told him MTV actually stood for Music Television, and he said he never thought about what the initials stood for. He said he had only seen reality shows on that channel. He is right though, because every time I am changing channels and come to MTV there is something besides music on.

I hear ya. I remember when the ONLY non video show on MTV was "Real World". Then came "TRL" and "True Life" and other shows. TOO MANY IMO.
extreme dimensions, driveshaft shop, harrop, hid(35watt/6k) lows, hurst, k&n, led fogs, maverick man, mishimoto, nitto, revshift, slp, stern st-1, smoked sidemarkers, whiteline poly radius rod bushings

Now neither one really plays much of anything that's related to music. VH1 is at least a little more on the mark with that one because of shows like "where are they now" and other at least sort of related to music things.
MTV is now a fail.
Do bands even make music videos any more?

I thought MTV2 was the "new music video source" after MTV became a soap opera channel ?
But then again I am old and haven't turned anything like that on in years.

I remember well the launch of MTV and also Night Tracks back in the early 80's. Anymore you could delete MTV from the channel line up for all I care. To the OP -- Def Leppard ruled back in the day. I still regularly listen to Pyromania and Hysteria in my DD.

I admit i do like "true life". but other then that, MTV is nothing like it was in the 80s to early 90's. I was born in 82 so yes I do remember music videos being on MTV not quite as vividly as other members on here, but i do remember.

I worked at mtv for 2 years....they really make their money on reality shows, but they're starting to hurt. theres too many channels out there.
-Mtv tres was brought out to bring programming and videos to the latino people
-Mtv u was for newer bands needing air time, and played videos, but went belly up
-MTV then only played videos in the AM and reality the rest of the day
-then MTV 2 was supposed to be re-runs, old videos and stuff no one liked...and no one likes it still, lol.
