Motorcycle Guys Step Inside...
So...I havent had a street bike for like 6-7years but my dad is bugging the hell out of me to get another one because he's got the itch to get one. He just signed up for a class and he's going to get his motorcycle license within the next 2-3weeks...I've always liked the v-rod's and I'm really thinking about picking one up "used". Any pro's and con's I need to be aware of with these? Certain year models that I need to avoid...?

I like v-rods as well. Not a harley guy so can't really tell you much about what to look for or avoid. Eitherway they are nice bikes.

V-Rods are cool but if you are a big guy they can be a little cramped. There was a V-Rod and a Victory Hammer on the lemon lot right next to each other a while back and I tried both of them on and walked away wanting the Hammer. Still want one. FWIW Victory has a decent line up and is worth a nod if considering a cruiser. If you do get a V-Rod I would shoot for the anniversary 03' edition. Very nice and plenty of bling comes with them, (if that's your thing). Also recommend trying one on and test ride, if they have one to test ride with forward controls I would recommend testing both.

Try out user TLS_Addict. I dont know if he sold it yet or not, but he had a '12? Victory Hammer. According to his kidney stones they named it that for a reason

VRods don't sound like a Harley...
???
They're not as fast as a sportbike, brakes aren't as good as my 14 yr old ZX9, they don't handle like a sportbike, not comfortable like a "bagger"
Here's my ZX9r with 50k miles on its odometer, the most fun ever, I ride this bike until I have to stop for gas (162miles)...

Check out the Yamaha Raider. It outclasses the VROD in everything. Plus, it costs less. And this is coming from a guy who builds bikes.
It's not how fast you can go. It's how fast you can get there.

Yamaha has really stepped up their game. We did a custom Warrior, and it's a great platform. The Raider just goes to a whole new level.

Warriors are Nice, R1 sportbike brakes (and forks?). My buddy had one and it got more attention than my custom Harley and he paid half the cost of what I did.

he is absolutely correct, I had a Honda VTX. 1800 sorry to say the technology built into the Honda, Yamaha street cruisers is far above anything Harley has built for a fraction of the price....Harley is more of a status thing. Not that they are junk just pound for pound can't compete
