Most U.S. Drivers Engage in 'Distracting' Behaviors: Poll

Most U.S. Drivers Engage in 'Distracting' Behaviors: Poll

    This makes me wonder:
Do female drivers play with their hair more than male drivers do?
Are sports car drivers less likely to eat in their cars than drivers of other vehicles?

I'd be willing to bet the growing use of smart phones has vastly increased the growing rate of poor driving and accidents.

Why smart phones? People can still call, text or email without smart phones. Unless people are really surfing the web while driving or playing angry birds I am not sure. Smart phones also let you text, call, use the GPS, look up information without using your hands or eyes.

You're right, cell phones in general, but I think since smart phones have really come into play, it's gotten even worse with built in gps and the like. People live and die by their phones now more than ever (no pun intended). Yes, smart phones have made overall use easier. But they're more than just a phone and have become more a lifestyle for people no matter where they are or what they're doing.

I agree cell phones period lead to driver inattention. And driver inattention is the leading factor in car accidents. Many of us on here can remember driving without having one. But in today's world it is hard to tell someone to put the phone down. People of all ages do it and think nothing of it. But your main task while driving is to drive period. I know many will say they can multitask and have done it all their life. FYI driving is not a multitasking job.
